    There's A Break In The Road 45 (1969)

    SSS International

Another sure shot slice of hard hitting southern soul by veteran Betty Harris.  Harris gets the Allen Toussaint / Meters-style New Orleans funk treatment differentiated by an authentic raw / psychedelic feel embellished with creative mic feedback and edgy Hammond organ arrangements. It's been a great mystery for years whether or not the Meters drummer Zigaboo Modeliste was the one pounding the skins on this track. It's actually the unsung James Black along with members of the Meters (George Porter Jr. on bass and Leo Nocentelli on guitar).
