From A Whisper To A Scream LP (1971)

    Kudu

I ain’t terribly familiar with girlfriend’s work. I seem to recall hearing some of her other lp’s and not really doing back-flips or anything. I’m really not even sure why I picked this one up. (Oh yeah, I think it’s cause I saw that Pee-Wee Ellis did arrangements, and Pretty Purdie on drums) But damn! This one is goes straight into the upper echelon of female soul records. First of all it’s got her ultra dope version of Gil Scott’s “Home is Where the Hatred is”, well worth owning a copy just for this. But every cut is the shit! No, they are not all as hard & funky as said track, but equally wonderful.
