    Leon Ware LP (1972)

    United Artists Records ‎

Debut effort by Detroit producer / songwriter Leon Ware, the man who helped propel the careers of many a pop soul artist in the 60s and 70s including Marvin Gaye, Bobby Womack, the Jackson 5, and more. Most of this is unremarkable gospel soul, but by golly he saved the best for side 2. "What's Your World" is Michael McDonald meets Motown on a 7 day lude binge. It's Descending dreamy synth grooves and sultry jazz guitar mesh perfectly with Ware's fine use of the female background chorus. The song meanders at the end and it's pure hypnosis. The last track is a classic. "Tamed to Wild" begins again with a very atmospheric synth beat that sounds like it could be heard on a Boards of Canada release. It then breaks into an emotional binge of Ware's anguished vocals and, again, an amazing female back up.
