Da Lench Mob - Guerillas In Tha Mist (1992)

Released on Eastwest Records America

The first release from Ice Cube’s proteges Da Lench Mob. Originally, it encompassed his whole post-NWA posse (Yo Yo, J-Dee, Kam, Sir Jinx, Maulkie, etc.) but for the albums was narrowed down to the trio of Shorty, T-Bone and J-Dee, with healthy doses of Ice Cube throughout. Produced by Cube himself, you really hear the Bomb Squad’s influence in the sound of this record. Coming out between Death Certificate and The Predator, you also get that classic early 90’s LA hip hop sound. The album gets a bit repetitive at points, and Shorty can not rap to save his life, but there are some standout classic jawns on this:

Freedom Got An AK, All On My Nut Sac, Ain’t Got No Class (feat. B-Real from Cypress Hill) Who Ya Gonna Shoot With That, and Lord Have Mercy. It’s also great because this was during the ‘concious gangster’ era when folks were talking about getting loc’d on the ‘shaw, but still warning the shorties about the dead ends of the fast life. All in all, a solid album with only a couple of terds.
