Can we get a consensus on Helen Reddy?
Sayin'.
Because a whopping three of her hits were about mentally disturbed women ("Leave Me Alone," "Delta Dawn" and "Angie Baby"), which would make her prime Soulstrut discussion material right there. 
Besides, I woke up this morning with "Leave Me Alone" playing in my head...what I wouldn't do to get that shitty song off my mind...

Anyway, Delta Dawn doesn't suck.
I played guitar in the stage band of a beauty pagent where the contestants sang I Am Woman Hear Me Roar and Close To You.

Growing up, Helen Reddy was grown-up music, maybe mom music even though my mom grew up with a lot of Motown, Stax, and Atlantic 45's. You do enough digging, you can come across the complete Helen Reddy discography in a day, and in that time you eventually pick up and listen. You then realize she had done a version of "I Am Woman" before the hit version, and while I haven't found any breaks, there are enough horn sections worthy of manipulation (including the first "I Am Woman", layer that over a Hendrix break and you got it like NKOTB).

As a kid I used to watch her TV show although it was not a "must see." As a ten year old in 1973 I found Toni Tenille and Cher hotter, Flip Wilson funnier and Johnny Cash more musically pleasing.
