Friend not contacting me back..(record related)
Hello good people...
So, I can't get this off my mind. I moved to SF last year and was hesitant on shipping all of my records there. My good friend at the time (not a record collector) said she was more than happy to let me keep them at her place since she has so much space. I was kinda weary about it, but grateful.
She had once mentioned how her basement was flooded a few months back, but assured me my records were fine.
I went back home this August and saw her and was well. Told her I will get my records from her place and she wasn't too worried about it. So, I went ahead and decided to not jump on it (sigh...)
Just saw on Facebook a few days ago that she is moving out of the state...so of course I thought of my records! I have called her, left her a message, email and have not heard from her.
I have a feeling my records have been ruined or tossed. I have this sinking gut feeling and don't know what else to do?! I have contacted other friends who know her to see if that could help me out.
What other options do I have now? I don't want to be a bitch, but I am not too happy that she isn't responding to me.

She probably sold them off to people who needed images for their DJ gigs!

i dont know what your misgivings are based on...it sounded like she was curating them with class for a good long time. you think she might be moving simply because they got ruined?? probly not. she's probably busy or lost her phone or is on a camping trip

Get someone, a mutual friend, to go to her house and ask to see them on your behalf since you got to move them out of there. Depending on what s/he sees or doesn't see, then decide your next move.

Cant you get down there to find out whats happening yourself? Damn that sucks...
But maybe she doesnt see it as a big thing eg normal ppl dont value/worry about records like we do, she might assume its just crap in the basement and something she'll take care off after all the important things are handled (moving r)
You could Google Earth her home address and check nothing sus has occured...like say a bunch of records dumped outside her curb...

Nothing bad about putting records in storage as long as you store them at a proper business specialized in such things and you should also have your insurance sorted out, of course. People put antique instruments or paintings etc in storage that are worth tens or hundreds of thousands.
What I would never do is store something at a friend's place. Especially not if it's something heavy, bulky space consuming but still fragile and valuable... maybe if it's a very good friend, not a very valuable record collection and not a long time.
Why didn't you even go and check on them to make sure they didn't get damaged during the flood when you were back in town?
I know, this is all after the fact but right now, I would just get soemone to go there and try and get your shit out of there...

Storage is one thing but you didn't do that, you put them at a friends house. Free rides are cool but they can come with a cost. Not saying you are cheap, it sounds like you went back to school etc. but with records being valuable and somewhat fragile in terms of storage and the elements, the lesson learned may be to bite the bullet and pay for legitimate safe storage.
Moving is very all consuming so if she moved give her time to get back to you before you draw any conclusions.

But, I should note that the last time The-Gaffler was in my basement, he came out of the guest bedroom in nothing but a pair of boxers and stole any respect I had for the man.
