Presents Badfoot Brown And The Bunions Bradford Funeral & Marching Band LP (1971)

    UNI Records

In the early 70s, when Dr. Huxtable wasn't spouting off clean comedy and making creative uses for prescription drugs, he was dabbling in funky free jazz explorations under the faceless guise Badfoot Brown And The Bunions Bradford Funeral & Marching Band.  Of the two releases on the famed UNI records, this 2 track album stands out for the 15 minute somber ode to Martin Luther King Jr. ,"Martin's Funeral."  It's a depressing, tense,  psychedelic jazz funk journey that interprets Cosby's experience participating in Martin Luther King Jr.s  funeral procession.  He even includes some very poignant liner notes regarding the event. 90s hip hop zealots cross reference the track as an original sample source for A Tribe Called Quest's 1993 classic "We Can Get Down."  Side B keeps the spirit alive with the 20 minute funky free jam "Hybish Shybish."  All and all, Bill Cosby Presents Badfoot Brown And The Bunions Bradford Funeral & Marching Band is a must for fans of all types of jazz.
