    Record collecting still popular?

I'm sure collecting will continue to be a thing well into the future. But I feel like the peak era of Soulstrut was also a peak era for record collecting, at least outside of the traditional groups. For the younger folks - at the time - there was an interest in digging up old samples and...

I got my old account back... and it still has a Collegeclub.com email address

Thanks to @RAJ after about 10 years I've been able to reclaim my account. I made a joke about it still having my collegeclub email on it... and surprise, it did. That's all my news. RIP Collegeclub / almost 22 years as a formal strutter.

    Nujabes - whats your thoughts

Been listening to some Nujabes beats and some other chill hop lately. I like most of it, but backtracking the samples I've found most of his and others beats are nothing more than a piano loop with a drum beat overtop. For someone who was lauded as a producer extraordinaire, that was...

Where's the place to move internationally?

Not planning on going anywhere but wonder what the recommendation would be. I'm in the US, but I know a lot of the Strutters are either from abroad or live abroad. Where's the spot? Seems like everywhere else has numerous downsides. Much of the part of Europe that doesn't top out at 65...

    Nostalgia and all that

I have no idea why but I've been on a nostalgia kick lately. And I don't mean just the wistful longing for the golden age of hip hop (which seems like everyone has been doing since almost immediately after it ended) but just for 90s music in general. I think I must be getting to that age where...

    Random pre-popularity Trina sighting

Thought this was a hilarious random Trina pop-up on some guy's home video he shot at Freaknik in 1997. In Lids, during Freaknik anyway. Also probably one of the most boring, and perv-creeper-iffic videos also if you watch more of it. Just thought it was funny because it is entirely random as...

Anyone still have those Sayer beat off mixes from back in the day?

I don't think I still have the one or two I made. I remember some of them were pretty good. Soulstrut talent at work.

What is the demand for sample-based hip hop now?

I watched the Stones Throw documentary - and was reading the old posts on this board - and it seems like there was demand for sample based hip hop through the mid 2000s. Now it seems like that is completely out the window. I get that the legal environment is not conducive to sampling...

Old school Miami booty bass resurgence

One thing I picked up from that weird Hemol post from last year was a link to some of these Booty Bass resurgence videos. Synth cowbells? Count me in! Didn't know the circa 1990 sound was back (looks like I am a few years behind, but who pays attention to Miami anyway?) I know someone on...

Mistakes, Distractions, and Other Music Video Bloopers

Was watching an Onyx video today on Youtube, and noticed that when they did the obligatory booty zoom in during the video, the girl had a hole in her pants smack in the middle of the crack of her ass. It seemed pretty cheap and cheesy even for a video where 75% of it is spent just of Onyx...

    The Strut on Mac Miller

Mac Miller - some Mac Miller, anyway - is a guilty pleasure of mine. In a way I feel guilty for this as he seems to epitomize white entitlement rap, but his flow is good and I like a lot of his beats - very throwback. What is the Strut's thought on Mac? If it was 10 years ago I could...

So if we rolled the board back 10 years... where is everyone?

Soulstrut seems quiet these days. I can remember page after page of arguments about vinyl minutiae and eurotrash and "no homos" and whoever that one weird French guy was. Calls for this person and that person to be banned and so many funny Google Image Search photo links and geoducks. Le...

Your favorite lyrical screw-ups in songs?

Every now and then I'll listen to a song and in the lyrics a word will clearly be misread or misstated, changing the whole meaning of the line. I've always wondered why they were so lazy to not re-do the line, or maybe no one noticed? One that always sticks out for me is in Ice Ice Baby...

Jazz tracks with hiphop-esque drum beats / basslines

Enjoy the jazz, but I'm one of those people who enjoys a good drum beat over their music. A clip I caught on NPR about a month ago made me think of it again, sounded like vintage 60s-early 70s jazz with a great drumbeat to it. Any suggestions? I know you know.

    THE FOOD REVIEWER

The seriousness is epic. He's so thoughtful about it. And I love how he rates Ring Dings "a buy." Ditto for his review of Fruit Gushers, etc. Subscribe to this kid, he's peeing his pants. You know this has SS written all over it.
