DJ Matthew Africa Plays Seven Inches

I haven't logged into Soulstrut for quite some time, but I felt compelled to take a moment to just pay my respects to a man I've never met but who has had an influence on so many of my dear friends, as well as myself. RIP and thoughts and prayers with everyone that this tragedy effects. -e

Some truly evil schitt going down at Penn State

GenePontecorvo said:So honorable of JoePa to go ahead and finish this promising and oh-so-important season and then step down when his contract ends anyway. /sarcasm Penn State could take a small step towards a semblance of dignity by removing him instantly. He'll be fired...

    WAKA FLAKA'S FOZZIE CHAIN

Chain is awesome. Anybody criticizing the lyrics of a rap song where the yelling adlibs are mixed louder than the actual verses is probably missing the point. This is hard music to get you hype, not rap music to make nerds say "WHOA! SWEET LYRICALS, BRO!" -e

    New Plies single called ”BECKY”

    The B.U.M.S. Sample ID.

That's what the F*ck it is! That's why I mentioned Wackers. I knew it wsa something similar to that! Not as hippy looking as I remember in my private mind gardn. -e

    The B.U.M.S. Sample ID.

Sorry that wasnt very helpful, but it's some rock record with a drum break on it and dudes on the cover looking like hippies... i think. -e

F*ck... it's not the Wackers, but it's on some record that has a dope drum break on it. -e

Boogiemonsters - ”Riders Of The Storm”

"daniel is definitely overcompensating for a youth spent searching for brand new heavies b-sides"-noz on AIM right now I havent listened to this album in a good 10 years. I recall enjoy parts of it and thinking parts of it were incomrpehensibly wack. The tag on the cover definitely swayed me...

    Summer Jam 2009?

I rep what I know and can trust. Chalie Boy is too good to still be local. He's had the majors after him, but his dealings with his crew (Dirty 3rd) apparently always seem to get in the way. The song is all over the radio here, and last week there was a video shoot out at Givens Park and the...

    Summer Jam 2009?

Glad to see things around here never change! Harvey still swears his local rap experience is on the verge of becoming the global rap experience (or, is at least at all times BETTER THAN ANY OTHER LOCAL RAP EXPERIENCE)! But, yeah, THE SUMMER JAM may have gone the way of the do-do, but it's...

    Summer Jam 2009?

There a thread for this yet? I can always trust Soulstrut to have a pretty engaging conversation regarding Summer Jams. Searched and couldnt find a thread. My picks:1. BEP "Boom Boom Pow" - Theoretically, I hate the BEPs, but this song is too great to front on. It's a combination of Bmore...

    Clearing a Sample for Licensing?

I just gone done reading taza's thread about "publishing" etc, where Thes, Einstein, and Controller 7 dropped some knowledge for us, but I'm curious about the "CLEARING A SAMPLE" portion of all this.Basically, my dude emailed me about a song we did a while ago and he told me that some company...

Clipse ”We Got It For Cheap Vol. 3” Just Leaked...

This seems to be an unpopular opinion on the internets, but this is my favorite of the three tapes. The rapping is really, really good for the most part and I really like most of the beats. I was surprised how much I liked this. I kinda figured I was done with the Clipse, but they completely...

weird German talk show host freestyles on my beat

Tommy, I hope you get some money out of this crud. Eff that. Also, you should really find a way to punish this behindert guy for saying this incomprehensibly dumb $hit as well. HAHA! So classic. -e

How ATL Hustled to Become the Capital of HipHop

Interesting article but I don't know how much I agree with it. I agree with the notion that part of the reason the ATL sound has become so commercially successful is because of it's versatility. But, while Outkast was and probably always will be a significant part of what helped bring Atlanta...

    New Ghostface album

I'm kinda closer to being with Deej on this than I am to any of the "Be Easy" fans. I too think "Be Easy" is pretty boring and I think it's only a relevant "club" record in New York. Depending on the number of "real heads" in the audience in Philly will dictate whether or not that record did...

    that new freeway

OK. I'm now through my 3rd, 4th, and 5th listen. This album is effing great. Jake, congrats on the beat. Ish is knocking dude. -e

    that new freeway

I'll report back after a couple of listens, but upon first listen, it's really good. The beats weren't as immediately wig-splitting as the first album, but Freeway is too good of a rapper for the album too not be at least SOMEWHAT good. I love this dude. -e
