Disco (soul/funk) records you’re feelin

if you ever see Joubert Singers "stand on the word" 12" pick that up pronto! super hard to find...even though it's on Next Plateau.
I have it on 45. I'd love it if the vocals weren't too xian. Does the 12" have an instrumental by any chance? The 45 has the acapella on the flip.

DJ Ferrari
wow...you have the original. what label is it on? is it credited to the joubert singers? does it mention walter gibbons on it?

dude, the 12" is ill...it's a tony humphries mix...has instrumental and a couple different versions...all extended...6 minutes at least. and i'm pretty sure it's remixed...the vocals sound great...especially the "we don't know how we don't know where" dude.

it's easiest to track down on the louie vega choice comp that came out last year.

going rate for that is waaaaaaaay overpriced.

Something cheap like Make Me Over - The Escorts pee pees all over it IMO.

there's boots of the Mary Clark that cost $5 thanks to peter brown...that track kills Escorts in my opinion but like syl johnson says "different strokes"

of course not much listed in here is straight-up disco...more disco-era soul/funk or disco reggae.

It's a pic sleeve, Joubert Singers - Stand on the Word - Next Records 1985. No Walter Gibbons mention. I'll take a pic later.

A Side: Stand on the Word
B Side: Stand on the Word ("A Clapella" Version)

Produced by Phyliss Joubert and George Rodriguez Jr.

I'm partial to the boogie end of the spectrum, but it's all good

seriously..what is "straight up disco" ? anything with 4 on the floor? kc and the sunshine band, gloria gaynor, patti jo, van mcoy, teddy p, diana ross, gq disco nights???

i mean...i dont believe there is such a thing as "straight up disco". musically, all roads seem to have led to disco...and the term disco, stems from "discoteque" . The word disco has such a stigma...to me its just
straight up dance music..whether its soul, funk, gospel,etc...backed by a dance beat, made for the disco.

panache, the instrumental..is rockin", a timeless groove that always makes me want to dance..

there just still seems to be a phobia of disco around these parts...even the title of the thread had to say soul/funk after mentioning disco!

but disco is really just soul and funk that came out in the latter part of the 70s...it's all the same to me.

peter brown/patrick adams disco is quite different than moroder/cerrone disco.

so there's a 45 of joubert on next plateau? that's crazy. so then you must have close to the same mixes i have on 12"...maybe shorter versions. i was thinking you had the original release on a small brooklyn label...i think it was an lp cut. does it mention tony humphries on the 45?

some t.k. disco favorites that aren't very disco:

king sporty "get on down"

madd dogg fire department "cosmic funk" (produced by tommy stewart)

queen samantha "take a chance"

i don't really listen to disco that much but this has to be hands down the dopest disco record i've ever heard

newban.jpg
i believe some of newban went on to become atlantic star. both of the newban lps are hot i think.

but the raw disco shit on that label is nashville depot. too bad its pressed like shit..
no mention of production credit, or musicians ever on guinness label, whos got info ?

i just heard this for the first time:

Universal Robot Band - "Barely Breaking Even"

Now to find myself a copy...

I'll warn you it's a $100 record and has been a known track for as long i can remember.

K.

but the good news is that it's been booted/reished...killer track that never pops up! the reish was at A-1 records not to long ago.

i have the UK Streetwave pressing.
