What a bunch of pussies.

No really, if I've been drinking, with cause, Edith Frost's "Calling Over Time" will usually do it for me.

The Commodores "Three Times A Lady"

No, seriously???

Marvin Gaye - "Flying High (In The Friendly Sky)". That song can make me cry over some of the stupid shit I saw people do to themselves, and it always kept me in check when I was starting to go too far into something I knew was strictly downhill. The ultimate addiction song in my book. That line about "I know I???m hooked my friend -To the boy who makes slaves out of men" is so on point. I had the lyrics hanging on the wall for a long time, as a reminder. In fact, a lot of Marvin's stuff can be tearjerking.

One that came close last night:

"Mama's Dead" from the Black Ceasar soundtrack.

That's one song that I hope I'll never have to be comforted by.
Yess...

and I'll add

"It's so hard to say goodbye" by Boyz II Men
"what a wonderful world" by Sachmo
"Summertime" by Al Green

Patches-Clarence Carter

Plus a lotta the other ones you sensitive muhfuckas have listed.

That Dierdre Wilson Tabac song "I Can't Keep from Crying Sometimes" has gotten me on a number of occasions. The tears have always been happy, though.

When I was in high school it was Mobb Deep's " Drink Away the Pain"

I'm more about particular performances, like Marvin Gaye's 'Star Spangled Banner' at the '83 NBA all star game.

"At the time, singing the anthem was for the most part a straightforward job -- shoulders square, sing it straight like the hymn that it is. But for this game, Gaye took the anthem to a new level.

Lon Rosen remembers it well -- he was the director of promotions for the Los Angeles Lakers, the team hosting the All-Star game that year. He says Gaye's one rehersal was bumpy. By this point in his life, Gaye was battling a serious drug addiction. And on game day, the singer was running perilously late. But then the lights dimmed, and Gaye made history.

One year later, Marvin Gaye was dead, shot by his own father."

How about Aretha's fill-in for Pavarotti at the Grammys a few years back? 8 minutes of prep time, and she sang Nessu dorma, a big Puccini piece. It was insane and really emotional.

From an earlier thread:

"Ease My Troublin' Mind"

The only song that's ever made me cry like an infant, after the passing of my Great Uncle Shorty.

Therapy - use it wisely.
I'd go with this also or probablly "A Change Is Gonna Come."

Way to hard to pick just one by Otis...there are tons.

"Grandma's Hands" Bill Withers

That's a good one.

Also "Theme From Spartacus", and yes, Kanyeezy's "Hey Mama". It came on in the car the other day and I had to shut it off cause it hit a little too close to home.

You work late nights just to keep on the lights

...

Seven years old, caught you with tears in your eyes

Cuz a nigga cheatin, telling you lies, then I started to cry

As we knelt on the kitchen floor

I said mommy Imma love you till you don't hurt no more

Interesting thread. Nobodies crying over raers. Strutters are real people.

I have another rather strange one: Stevie's part in "The Crown". Even when I play it at a club (which I do on the regular) it never fails to give me an immense rush. I mean his lyrics couldn't be further away from my life but I can't help but feeling with him big time.

I do recall so very well
When I was just a little boy
I used to hurry home from school
I used to always feel so blue
Because there was no mention in the books we read about my heritage
So therefore any information that I got was education
Bums, hobos at depot stations
I would listen with much patience
Or to relatives who told the tales that they were told to pass ahead
And then one day from someone old
I heard a story never told
Of all the kingdoms of my people
And then how we fought for our freedom
All about the many things we have unto the world contributed
You wear the Crown

We wear the Crown (Crystal Blake)
We wear the Crown (Stevie Wonder)

Hey,

Here are a couple of my biggest tear-jerker joints:

-"Trouble of the World"-Mahalia Jackson (from the "Imitation of Life"-OST).
-"Mother Why"-Willie Banks & the Messengers.

Peace,

Big Stacks from Kakalak

america the beautiful, don't be so cold
how do you expecting our seeds gonna grow?
when you trap us in the ghetto
and show love to the other muthafuckers
while we right here starvin' at home
i'd cry if I thought that me shedding a tear might help
then again, me shedding tears don't help
i wanna call up to the president, just to see if he no help
let him know you up shit creek yourself
we all sinners
facing the winter, with no socks and no shoes
in a position, where we all gon' loose
instead of penatentiaries, we gon' need more schools
what the fuck is we gonna do?
sit around and let the world pass us by?
waitin' on a message from the Reverend
and he ain't but another man, tryin' to get to heaven

the transcription really doesn't do it justice though.

Sorry to change the subject but does anyone else feel rage when they hear statements including the words "I wept"? It really makes me mad -- like can't you just say you "cried" and leave it at that, do you have to get so corny about it?

Fantastic film (and soundtrack).
I just recently picked up The Mercenary. The only Corbucci western I've yet to see.

Ironically, my otherwise emotionally hard-as-nails friend (who shall remain nameless) ALWAYS used to start crying every time Rene & Angela's "You Don't Have To Cry" came on.
Without fail.
