Artists whose names you're pretty sure you are mispronouncing

Yes, that is correct. Bowie rhymes with "Joey."

Eh, I don't know about that. He's said himself that he cribbed his name from o.g. Jim Bowie (whose name is pronounced "BOO-ee"), and George Clinton says "BOO-ee" somewhere on Mothership Connection.

Perhaps a UK affiliate can confirm or deny.

I'm sure I've heard "Bow-ie knife" about 100 times more than I've heard "Boo-ie knife."

Then there was basketball's Sam Bowie. If anyone ever called him "Boo-ie" I missed it.

No matter how many times people tell me this, I cannot bring myself to pronounce it this way - just sounds wrong.

i've been wondering about that one too. and is Jake Sollo pronounced with a long or short "o"?

The Latino in me (*PASUE*) pronounced Cal Jay-der as Cal Tee-ha-thed for the longest time.

Just to make sure, it IS jay-der , right?

I bought a reverb unit from a Turkish guy last month, and when finding out about his background, we started talking about Turkish psych and whatnot. His pronounciations of the names of the bands and artists made very self-consious about by non-Turkishness.

yep it's Bar-ish Man-cho if you were wondering.

how does one say Amon Duul is it "a man dull" or "amen dool"

paging Frank on pronounciations of Nigerian boogie artists!

The good thing about rappers is that they keep talking about themselves in the third person so you always know how they're calling themselves.

Mtume was preventing all this by writing "MTUME is pronounced EM-TOO-MAY" on every record.

I have my doubts about many brazilian artists. For example how to say Jorge. Is it Shaw-Shee or Geor-Gee?
