<font class="small"1Quote:</font1<h,121<b,121<b,121<b,121Tampa has serious fire power, and will likely have a top 5 powerplay. Boston has one line. Hopefully Manny Fernandez plays like he did in Minnesota, or it will Boston will be a .500 team.<b,121 <b,121<b,121<h,121
<font class="post"1<b,121<b,121Boston has one line? One thing we do have is depth. We have two<b,121"top line" centers in Savard & Bergeron, along with a wealth of<b,121talented wingers in Kessel, Sturm, Kobasew, Ryder, etc. Our D is<b,121solid and well-coached. The one weakness is in goal, and while I<b,121agree Manny is the weakest link (he looked awful last night) we have<b,121the "goalie of the future" in Tuukka Rask playing extremely well in<b,121the AHL and he may very well be competing with Thomas for the starting<b,121job by Christmas. <b,121<b,121As for my picks, I haven't been following the rest of the league pre-season<b,121and in this first few days enough to really be confident in my picks, but since<b,121I did talk shit about yours:<b,121<b,121<b,121<b,121 1. Montreal <b,121 2. NY Rangers <b,121 3. Washington <b,121 4. Pittsburgh <b,121 5. Philadelphia <b,121 6. Boston <b,121 7. New Jersey <b,121 8. Ottawa <b,121 <b,121 1. Detroit <b,121 2. San Jose <b,121 3. Calgary <b,121 4. Minnesota <b,121 5. Anaheim <b,121 6. Chicago <b,121 7. Edmonton <b,121 8. Vancouver <b,121<b,121... obviously that 8 spot is a toss-up, especially in the<b,121east, where Buffalo or Carolina could easily replace Ottawa,<b,121and Dallas could certainly get in again in the west.<b,121<b,121And for the record, regarding Boston, if they had shown up for the<b,121last game of the season against Buffalo (the night after they clinched<b,121the playoffs, and they had a huge emotional dropoff for the Buffalo game)<b,121and pulled out a win, that one game would have moved them from 8th to 6th<b,121or even 5th seed going into the playoffs. Not that "what if" is worth anything

<font class="post"1<b,121<b,121The East is very stacked and tougher to predict. I agree that Carolina or Buffalo can sneak into #8. Kobasew and Ryder have lots of potential, but they're very inconsistent. If they can show up on a fairly regular basis, Boston will be a problem for most teams. Phil Kessel needs to step up as well.<b,121<b,121Interesting that you have Vancouver in and Dallas out. Other than that, I like your choices for the West. Solid picks for the East as well.

I really wish Laraque was playing tonight to F*ck with those Flyers goons.

um, yeah - there is nothing less enjoyable in my entire life<b,121than watching the Bruins play in Montreal. Even when they play<b,121well I hate it - and they are not playing well. <b,121<b,121

Well, I still feel that way, but a nice comeback by the<b,121B's to force the shootout. I'll take that point!

Growing up in Oregon meant having very little exposure to hockey, with the closest teams being Vancouver B.C. and San Jose, CA. I remember watching a few games, trying to get an understanding of the rules and play strategies, before seeing Detroit play, but once I did I was hooked. The Russian 5 is still my all time favorite line, with Konstantinov being my favorite of the bunch. That guy was a monster and so much fun to watch.<b,121<b,121Seeing them win two consecutive cups in the following years helped cement my status as a fan.

Sorry I haven't been replying... HUGE homework assignment for my grad class last weekend and an exam today...so I have been stressin the last couple weeks.<b,121<b,121I did get to listen to Hockey Night in Canada while studying this past weekend and Montreal is looking good...especially since you guys got some size now.<b,121<b,121I was also happy that Detroit was able to finally win at home...though they blew the lead again in the 3rd...and only got the win in OT. Hossa got his 300th though after Datsyuk had to walk the dog on some peeps.<b,121<b,121I also enjoyed watching Ovechkin straight regulate on Semin a couple days ago in the Washington - Pittsburgh game. I didn't know the dudes had such a feud. They were even saying that they wouldn't play together for Team Russia with all this talk of Yzerman and Team Canada. (Good choice BTW).<b,121<b,121...and the Penguins...? Without some gritty role player like Malone and Roberts, just don't look like they have the 'umph' this year.<b,121<b,121Once this mid-term is done I'll be responding more regularily.

Quote:Quote:<font class="post"1<b,121<b,121Ive respected their style of play eversince that same era<b,121<b,121One of the best managed teams in all of sports as far as I am concerned ans they've got the stats to prove it

Quote:Quote:Quote:<font class="post"1<b,121<b,121<b,121Yes, I also forgot to mention Stevie, who was the epitome of great leadership and sportsmanlike conduct, and Bowman, who was possibly the greatest coach of all time.<b,121<b,121I actually started to lose interest in the team when they began to load up their roster with big-name vets. Didn't they sign Robitaille, Hull, Hasek in the same year? With Shanahan and Federov as already-established team power-forwards, it was just too many egos on the ice. From what I remember, core players like McCarty, Chelios, Lidstrom, Draper, etc. were just as valuable that year. I was happy to see Hasek with them, but to be honest, I'm happier now with Osgood in the net. And Datsyuk is hands-down the best thing to happen to them this decade.

With just a little more shootout luck/finish, the Bruins would<b,121be 4-1 right now ... still, I'll take 2-1-2 for a team still getting<b,121it together. They have looked great so far, but tonight it's Buffalo<b,121for a second game in 2 nights, so I'm not brimming with confidence.<b,121<b,121Phil Kessel looks like a 50 goal scorer this year!<b,121<b,121 <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jeigh.gif" alt="" 21
