New Music / Release Thread

I like some of the Triangle stuff. I don't know how well a lot of it stands up to the test of time, and people hate on it because what it is, or what it isn't, or cause it's the new triphop or whatever.. but it fills a gap between ish like this










and the more left field hip hop producers.

Ha, had never even though of the logical progression from R??yksopp to Tri-angle but that track fits beautifully. My issue with a lot of the label's output is mainly to do with the repetitive nature of the music. Too much of it sounds like a good loop with no place to go. However, when it works, it really does work for me. Agree that it most likely won't stand the test of time but enjoying the good bits while it lasts.

My points of comparison would be Agitation Free, Dog Faced Hermans, and This Heat. This is how their label sums them up: "Using the just intonation tuning system favored by avant garde composers such as La Monte Young and James Tenney, the group's playing acknowledges the conservatory but just as freely draws upon krautrock, post-punk, Appalachian and African musical traditions."

One of my favorite threads. I've been deep into the stuff coming out on this label recently, starting with that medlar - terrell cut. Any of you brits have any other recommends along these lines?

This particular sound isn't really my cup of tea, but it's everywhere at the moment.

I'm not particularly a fan of the Solange and the video is pretty meh, but the song is great. produced by Dev Hynes, who I have a vague recollection of reading an interview with where he said he'd been dissecting Madonna songs to see where the magic came from, or something to that effect. Guess this is the fruit of that endeavor. Personally there is something about the layered synths that just does it for me in these mellow rnb tracks, same with the Alicia Keys - Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart and other tracks I can't recall right now.

In an almost complete counter, I love the video in my post but the song is pretty meh. I just love the idea of recording on one side of the world that contrasts your own, taking it home and chopping it up.. Had to clarify, it's been irking me.. Therapy session over.

Yeah I'm with you on this. It sounds like something from around the True Blue period. I know a couple of ladies who should be extremely stoked when they hear this. Personally, not mad at it at all either but then I'm now fully immersed in eighties nostalgia.

To kind of link in with the RnB appreciation in the last page or so of this thread (and to just reinforce that on subsequent listens I really like that Solange track though it's a real shame they didn't get it out in time for Summer), the new Miguel album is pretty great.





At the moment I think I still prefer the highs of the Art Dealer Chic EP overall but luckily he's included the best track from those on here anyway.
