I heard this guy at the ARC was promoting a web page he planned to launch which would be a database designed to allow people to trade vinyls or jackets for albums that were missing one or the other said components. Hair-brained scheme or useful service??

No way - this is a great idea and is easy to do, technically. I wanted to do this at one point, but it never seemed to fit with anything else I was doing.
