Dr. Dre - The Chronic

  • Dr. Dre

    The Chronic LP (1992)

    Interscope Records

Ranked #76 in the Soul Strut 200

What can be said about the Chronic that has not been said before? I will spare you the long winded Rolling Stone thesis for a classic album that needs no real introduction.  The Chronic captured the imaginations of the key demographic here at the Strut (Generation X) when it was released in 1992  (high school age for most.)  Its ground breaking west coast production interpolated P-Funk and Ohio Players synth funk and shed light (in a comical way on gangsta culture) which made intriguing fiction for the Internet-less suburban youth deluged with depressing grunge.  The album stands the test of time both lyrically and production-wise making it a touchstone for any aspiring sample based producer.
