Afro synth, Afro boogie, island undiscovered & rar

Posted by: rumbakali   Sep 15, 2015

Vintage Voudou Records in Amsterdam has a big eBay auction that just started (runs until 24 Sept) with loads of undiscovered and some big titles with a central theme of Afro synth. This also includes some of my recent finds from Kenya and South Africa. Genres: boogie, disco, afro synth, (proto) kwaito, brazil funk, and a few Hindi & Tamil electro funk records. In total over 100 records. Bid & check out snippets here, or ask for a zip containing all the snippets: goo.gl/ldRbo9

Highlights:

THE CONTINENTALS i’m ready to get down
Weird sparse drum machine track & Fatback band style singing on top, said to be from Nigeria - this copy is from Kenya but the label has a US address.
Sounds like something Theo Parrish would drop halfway into his set.

LETTA MBULU in the music the village never ends
Original 80s Kenyan copy of what has become the most sought after South African record.

BROTHER RESISTANCE rapso takeover
Vintae Voudou unearthed this last year, it has since been reissued but originals aren't any easier to find now.

ERROL DE LA FUENTE a moro bigi wan
Undiscovered (well, I used it in a dj Gioumanne mix last year) ghetto disco/boogie tune from Surinam.

BILL LOKO salsa makossa
Most wanted Cameroon/French boogie tune with spacy synth solos. Dancefloor sureshot on loud 12 inch press

JULIO SILVA
Unknown Onyeabor soundalike, one of his tracks really sounds like it's a cover of one of the Onyeabor tunes on Anything you sow.

YANNICK CHEVALIER ecoute le son du soleil
Instrumental version from a tune by guy most known for releasing jingle records in French, this is a super dope cosmic synth disco jam.

AFRICAN VIBRATION hinde / safari
Unknown single from Kenya sounding like it was heavily inspired by early 80s disco-not-disco and with heavy synth presence.

MAVIS JOHN use my body
Original Trinidad (or Barbados?) press of this island funk anthem

MARCHE NOIR ya du blues
One of the dopest island boogie jams ever, compiled recently but hard to find on vinyl.

CHARLY BOY 1990
Unknown Nigerian boogie / synth action on rare release by this eccentric singer

NELTA WYATT bad black and back
Undiscovered funk from Guyana, tiny press so possibly first & last copy to surface.

VENUS aerobic
Belgian excercise record with one out of this world cosmic disco track

ILAIYARAAJA maaveeran
Next level Tamil electro sounding as if it was made in the future

AHMED FAKROUN mots d'amour
The single most sought after Libyan record (how many do you know?)
