Best Track by a Female MC

Sparky D is dope as hell. "Never Run Never Will" is ruff and I like that. For Roxane Shante I would go for her less known LP The Bitch is Back. It is way better than the Bad Sister LP.

Also Rah Digga is straight up fire, Candy Fresh from Atlanta, Icey J from Miami and there are more but I cant remember them right now.

I will probably be clowned relentlessly for this, but i still think lost ones is really good.

Lets see... 10% dis, some other MC lyte songs and.....

probably that new shawna track.

female mc's aint really done all that much worth mentioning.

Not hating, just saying.

MC Lyte "10 precent diss"
Meechie Me(sp?) "Betta run for cover" (still trying to find this joint on vinyl)
lvl.gif

Sweet T "It's my beat"
Roxanne Shante (BDK) "Have an ice day" (I think BDK wrote that joint)

Lady of Rage on Stranded on Death Row

Suga T on Captain Save a Hoe

Heavyweights Volumes 2 & 4

Buddha Nature by Blac Monks

Couldn't say who the most consistent is. But in terms of best track; either JJ Fad 'Supersonic' or Sweet Tee 'Its My Beat'

aren't we asking for best track by a female MC, not the female MC you think deserves to be mentioned?

Bahamadia
Ladybug
Lady Of Rage
Medusa
Lauryn Hill
Shawnna
Winley Sisters
Isis
Roxanne Shante

etc

MC fucking Lyte - "Paper Thin". One of the best hip-hop jams, ever, male OR female. That other shit in this thread isn't even in the same building.

amazing that this hasn't been mentioned yet:

Ladies First - Queen Latifah & Monie Love

and some other dope female jams

You're Going Down - JJ Fad (Shante diss!!! best line - "And The Supersonic Album? Oh it's platinum")
It's My Beat - Sweet Tee
Lighters Up - Lil Kim (but maybe that's just my Brooklyn bias)

Candy Fresh from Atlanta
Yeah! Candy Fresh swears better than any rapper I know. It's hard to explain for those who haven't heard her, but when she says "fuck you" it's always so well placed and sassy.

I know it's totally a subjective thing and impossible to argue, but this cliche always pops up and it always rubs me the wrong way. It's like people who say "I listen to everything but country". I mean, who can argue with that, I guess, but they both strike me more as automatic, indoctrinated responses rather than observations from those who have taken the time to explore what's out there and to listen without prejudice. Especially given the recent wave of interest in so-called "random rap", I'm surprised more people haven't started to dig deeper in the crates for female MCs and, more importantly, recalibrate the way they appreciate the vast number of gems that are out there.

Yeah, but the top half dozen female tracks are all by Lyte, IMO.

I didn't read this whole thread, but did somebody seriously say Shawnna's name up in here?

BSides, but I never think he's serious

I guess I should have read this thread as "how many female rap tracks can we come up with"? Which is a worthy thread to have.

But yeah, as far as "best"... Lyte pretty much owns that.

Lighters Up - Lil Kim (but maybe that's just my Brooklyn bias)
Dude, your fucking tripping.
oh most likely, thus the explaination. I don't live in my beloved birthcity anymore and I attach to any semi-decent reference on wax.

Yeah, come on.. Nobody can mess with the Lyte.

You can cha-cha-cha to this Mardis Gras
I'm the dopest female that you've heard thus far
And I do get better, the voice gets wetter
Nobody gets hurt (as long as you let her)
Do my thing with an '89 swing
The dopeness I write, I guarantee delight
To the hip-hop maniac, the Uptown brainiac
In full effect, MC Lyte is back
And better than before as if that was possible
My competition, you'll find them in the hospital
Visiting time, I think it's on a Sunday
But notice they only get one day to shine
The rest of the week is mine
And I'll blind you with the science that the others have yet to find
So come along and I'll lead you the right way
Just clap your hands to the words I say, come on...

[Kick this one here for me and my DJ]

That's what any "best of" thread around here turns into after about ten posts...

the best = my favourites

mc lyte has been covered

queen b - lil kim

break fool - rah digga

i like ma barker's parts on click of respect

if memory serves, there's a pretty good female part on east flatbush project's everything we spit is hard

jean grae when she was what what

the lack of anything from the past two or three years is depressing - what i have i missed/forgotten that's good?

how about Foxy Brown's verse on Nas' "Affirmative Action", from "It Was Written"?

I'm not a fan of hers at all (not even a little bit), but this verse was my favorite line on the entire album.

Just the mathematics alone...

"Raw though, an ounce mixed wit leak that's pure though
Flippin the bigger picture, the bigger nigga with the cheddar
Was mad dripper, he had a fuckin villa in Manilla
We got to flee to Panama, but wait it's half and half
Keys is one and two-fifth, so how we flip
Thirty-two grams raw, chop it in half, get sixteen, double it times three
We got forty-eight, which mean a whole lot of cream
Divide the profit by four, subtract it by eight
We back to sixteen, now add the other two that 'Mega bringin through
So let's see, if we flip this other key
Then that's more for me, mad coke and mad leak
Plus a five hundred, cut in half is two-fifty
Now triple that times three, we got three quarters of another key
The Firm baby, volume one uhh.."
