How the bit torrents work ?
I use E-mule, but I still didn't have time to learn how this other P2P works....

When you have a client (I use Azureus), you are able to tap into a stream of seeders. Rather than have you download from one source, you are downloading from a series of people who have the same group of files (or file) that you are looking for. Depending on your speed and theirs, you are able to get files quite fast. Unlike a lot of p2p networks, there are generally no waiting periods.
The files go through a "tracker", and the distribution system (both incoming and outgoing) is through that tracker. What everyone is uploading and downloading is located on the *.torrent file that you click onto. No other files on your hard drive can be tapped into, just the files listed within the torrent.
When you are seeding something, then everyone is leeching off the same files you had downloaded before, or you are seeding a file or directory/folder of files.
A number of torrent sites do require registration, but there are a number of directories with links to files, and those directories will often tell you whether or not you have to register. Here are some directories:

Then there's
http://www.isohunt.com . Unlike the above directories where people have to upload a torrent file one by one, Iso Hunt seems to be a Google-type search engine for any existing torrents that go through not only through these directories, but through any others that might be out there. It can find older torrents that may have only one or two seeders, and if you need that song or album, you can find it.

There are also free trackers, where anyone can upload a torrent and people can leech from you without having to go to a website. It could even be done here.
