A whole part of Jackie Brown's story is the relationship between these two. I don't know how you can watch scenes like these and think that the movie is comparable to Foxy Brown or Coffee at all

I watched this in room full of sistas..("whoop his ass!)".


And yeah I understand the "Get the whitney back" emotion, yet I felt it was way too obvious in the whipping scene.


Im old enough to have seen the shit done enough, that it wasnt next level. I expected that. There was no twist on it.





Unless your 16 and havent seen endless Blax joints,Roots,etc, I was surprised that my Sista friends were "shocked'.

Di Caprio did a very good job. The German dude stole the show IMO. And i liked the side actors. James Remar, the dude who played Boyd Crowder from Justified and Dead Crowder Sr, Don Johnson.

At the theater I went to, I noticed that there were a lot of guys - dads and boyfriends, probably - whispering to the person with them whenever there was some sort of reference, as if they had known what to expect beforehand. Funny shit.

I hope QT does something more original next time around, but I doubt it.

I think Spike Lee is a hater, the vast majority of whose movies actually suck (he's about 2-for-50 IMO, and, having revisited it lately, I even include "Do The Right Thing" in the lose column; it's corny as hell; hate me now). And I did like Django. That said, I have no problem with his remarks re: the movie (i.e. that slavery was not a spaghetti western and that "it's disrespectful to [his] ancestors."). Those are totally reasonable reactions to this movie.

i gotta agree with that. poorly written, rushed ending in my opinion. there was some good tension building but everything got very sloppy as soon as the german went rogue and the deal went to hell. bah





lots quality for the first 70% though


loved jamie foxx's expression after his first sip of beer. nice touch.

btw i just watched a QT interview where was talking about Django and how he wanted to make a movie "exploring slavery" and how Django has gotten lots of people talking about slavery.

According to Tarantino, his blood gushed scenes are supposed to be cartoonish. Even the most goriest. It's part of his style. I didn't knock the movie because of it, and thought some of it was pretty good in fact.

i dont mind the cartoonishness. i actually loved when django shoots the sister and she flies off screen from the blast as if she was getting sucked out of a plane. and the grounded bodies in the lobby continually getting shot over and oer by stray bullets was amusing.


the plot was well written, interesting and somewhat serious until the calvin/shulz showdown. shulz goes completely out of character when victory is in hand. completely out of character. just seemed a way to quickly segue into the bullet fest. not a very imaginative ending from that point on. all super predictable, boring, and unsatisfying as far as vengeance goes (and who wouldnt want to see the slavers comeuppance?). up to that point most of the vengeance seemed well earned. the end was almost like cheating: ok, heres the part where django becomes invincible and quickly kills everybody. boo





were there other leone or corbucci films that had such silly endings?





again, it was a shame, cause i liked the build up to that point and i thought waltz and foxx were great.
