<font class="post"1<b, 21<b, 21I'm trying to track trends & there are some strong indications that Funk is due for a massive turn-around. I think the Clinton Administration was a good time for all things funky. Toni Morrison called Clinton "The first Black President"; He played the sax, prefered thick women, & ate poorly. Funk with or without the "Y" was doing well. Then the Bush Administration & 9-11 happened. <b, 21<b, 21The next few years would prove rough for funk. Bush was not remotely funky, nor did he seem sympathetic to things displaying the slightest trope of funk, like New Orleans, for example. He was called out by Kanye West, who, if his music is any indication, is not terribly funky himself. Just look at this board for an indication of the kind of people that supported George Bush. There's that sabadabada person. Not to single him out, but I don't know if he even owns a single James Brown record. Would he even know what "Funky President" is? I don't know.<b, 21<b, 21To the further detriment of funk, American foreign policy & the Iraq war embarassed many Americans, and pushed them to trade in their musical citizenship. Ashamed to be "Living In America", record collectors dropped JB and embraced many weird records that suck.<b, 21<b, 21Now, there's going to be a new president. He's Black, or at least a close approximation to Black. This bodes well for funk into the future. In this administration, George Clinton stands poised to be more relevant than George Bush (Paint The White House Black!). Barak Obama is the "Starchild" of Bill & George Clinton. Funk shall thrive. 2009 will be a great year.

<font class="post"1<b, 21<b, 21I'm not even a fan of his, but between "Brokeback" and "Dark Knight" I think he is someone people will remember for a long time. Maybe not like Isaac Hayes, but still...<b, 21<b, 21To continue:<b, 21<b, 21Charlton Heston<b, 21Studs Terkel<b, 21Sydney Pollack<b, 21Robert Rauschenberg<b, 21Jesse Helms

This should be Mannybolones thread... he seemed to be the official Obits editor in chief at the strut, it was a full-time job this year. Maybe alot of these great artists saw Obama riding in and thought they could let go. <b, 21<b, 21RIP y'all.

Cy Leslie, founder of Pickwick Records and vice chairman of the Songwriters' Hall of Fame...he passed away on January 6.

Bernie Mac. Been a bad few years as far as legends dropping off.<b, 21RIP APEX

<font class="post"1<b, 21<b, 21I sincerely get sad when I think about this. Crazy loss.

<font class="post"1<b, 21<b, 21He and Studs also hurt.<b, 21<b, 21No death of an artist ever hit me as hard as DFW.
