It's a .rar archive. Widely used compression format.
On a Mac, I'd recommend UnRarX for opening it.
Free, lightweight and easy to use.
Re: the MYA forum - I'm not a fan (sorry RAJ). Bring the "homemade" music stuff back to CDR. I know the grumpy born-again collectro weenies think that beat threads and gear talk is "so 90s", but fuck 'em.
Commercial mix announcements belong in the announcements section, of course.
Pencilface -
Did you actually make a shirt with that prog design? I would definitely buy that from you, if possible.

ha! no -- it was a threadless submission that scored VEY low! f*cking hipsters! - -probably should of added more keyboards though...
my mate is gonna print it up through his t-shirt company -- but i can't imagine it'll be very quick! i'll let you know...
OK, here's a mix of Soundtrack Funk/Jazz and Soul that I did when I was deep into that stuff.
My audio editing equipment recently kacked out, so I can't splice the first and second halves of the mix together.
To download the first half:

As for a track list, I never did one and it would take a while to figure out, but there's some blaxploitation like Charles Earland's Dynamit Bro's, Dolomite, Willie D, Black Girl, Bare Knuckles, etc..., mixed with some different sounds from Gainsbourg, Balacov, Dibango:Kusini, Pound, etc...

Pencilface, Mario, just checked your mixes and really enjoyed them. Mario - are those all from OG vinyl - it's like a who's who of Brazilian funk!
Here's my most recent effort - I put it in the Music You All section. It's all from OG vinyl, recorded into Logic. I played some clavinet and overdubbed it on the Last Poets track. PM me if you want any of the tracks names. It's not my slickest mixing; I just wanted to send out some tracks I'm feeling right now, that really epitomise 'funk' for me.
Cheers,
Tom
WHAT IS FUNK?
I'll let Rare Gems Odyssey and others 'splain to ya... pm me for track IDs, play / download link is below the artwork - hope you enjoy it!

most of them are yeah, some tracks had to come off comps (toni tornado- podes crer, Miguel de deus) as the OG records are too expensive or just hard to find in good condition.

Stemmed from that Wilton Felder track w. Bobby Womack. Just liked that sound.
This evolves from darkness into light, kicking off with some sorry-ass junkie tales > inspiration > happiness. Or something like that. Nothing uber-raer but made from what was to hand at the time.
Brian Jackson - Parallel Lean
Gil Scott-Heron & Brian Jackson - Home Is Where the Hatred Is
Bobby Caldwell - Down For The Third Time
Perri - Maybe Tomorrow
Wilton Felder - Inherit the Wind
Ramp - Daylight
Marlon Saunders - Afro Blue My Mind
Flowers - For Real
Aretha Franklin - When You Love Me Like That
Don Blackman - Never Miss a Thing

Nice track list.
Well, I'd say the Flowers track is pretty tough to get hold of unless you've got a spare few thousand dollars!
BTW - are you Jimster aka Jamie Odell? I often play keys for Kirk Degiorgio and over Christmas I did a recording with another band at Chris Taylor's (of The Bays) studio! I also know Nick Cohen a little bit (last time I met him was at Don Blackman's Jazz Cafe gig). My bad if it's not you, but I thought it was worth checking just in case it was. I'm surprised our paths haven't crossed yet!
Anyway,
Cheers,
Tom
