Just a quick dip into a local spot on lunch, but I grabbed a couple of joints, and walked away satisfied. Favorite cop o' the day:

NICE clean OG deep groove copy for pretty cheap, and it is an amazing slice of post-bop genius...can't go wrong with help from D. Byrd, Blue Mitchell, Philly Joe, etal. I'm just psyched cause I haven't grabbed an LP like this in a minute, no breaks, no fuzz...just pure jazz heat.

Dope 1968 country/folk/rock LP that features some heavyweight guest players, including Gram Parsons on a cover of "That's How Strong My Love Is!" Yaw!

Got the French LP pressing of this (image is a CD), Stooges 1973 rehearsals titled, "My Girl Hates My Heroin." Some are pretty rough, but a few just shred like nothing else out there, Stooges style. A nice find, and definitely

One 45: Johnnie Taylor - Don't You Fool With My Soul - Stax as recommended by Pickwick 33 in the "best Stax records" thread...

some decent pulls for cheap:

The Chi-lites- A Lonely Man

Lamont Dozier- Out here on my Own

Oliver Nelson- Black, Brown, and Beautiful

Ammons/Stitt- You talk that talk (ehh...)

Bealtes- Sgt. Peppers (about time i owned this...nice clean copy)

Bobby Womack- Communication

Bobby Womack- Understanding

Bobby Womack- The Poet

Lamont Dozier- Out here on my Own
I've been pimpin' this one on here for a minute. Definitely some slept-on shit, dude gets hardcore on this piece, "Breakin' Out All Over," "Fish Ain't Bitin'" start to finish. Did your's come with the hilarious "ice grill" insert? Hommie's rockin' the thousand-yard-stare!

Ruth Copeland "Self-portrait" (Invctus) - Female Funk with a rock tinge a la parliament osmium wihtout the psychadelia. George Clinton and Eddie Hazel had a hand in making & playing on this.

Staple Singers "What The World Needs Now Is Love" (Epic) - never seen this before, but I'm guessing its from the late 60's just before they did all that stuff with Stax. Nice soulful type religion stuff, Mavis has some surrious pipes

Don Randi Plays Love Theme From Romeo & Juliet" (Capitol) - Been wanting this since Jordan was winning rings. David Axelord late 60's production

The Human Condition "Working People Gonna Rise!" (Paredon) - was gonna make a trade for this a while back but I fell off the ball (sorry FM). Great socialist folk album with 2 or 3 funky cuts....the cover to this is fucking bananas; packaged like it was on folkways.

Teena Marie "Robbery" (Epic) - classic that I shoulda had a long time ago

Teena Marie "Irons In the Fire" (Gordy) - see above

Glenn Jones "I Am Somebody / Instrumental" (MCA) - 45 rpm

Lee Morgan '1938-1972' (Epitaph)

Jack Millman And The All Stars Jazz Orchestra 'Reflections' (Tootsie, 79)...Small/private label jazz from TN (?) with Chico Hamilton, Mike Pacheco and others.

Jazz Of The 60s 2LP (VJ International)...Nice compilation. I'm liking the flute and vibe groove, Afro Blues Quintet "Liberation"

Thelma Houston "Sunshower" (ABC/Dunhill, 69)

Art Blakey "Bag Of Blues" (VJ International, 77)

Al Zeppy "...En New York" (UA Latino)...Solid boogaloo and salsa

Bluebeard "Bad Dream" (Parliament, 79)...Hard hitting local progressive rock with an ARPy version of "Paint It Black"

Thanks to Drez...

The Fantastic Four "The Whole World Is A Stage" / "Ain't Love Wonderful?" (Ric Tic)

The M.M. and the Peanuts "I Found My Love" / "The Phillie" (Money)

A lot of them are spares (Collins&Shepley,Sadowski,Locksmith,Grover,Wallin,P.Green,SSO,Ellis,Runners,B.Miles,Gasca,Weber,Raices,Lee&Brown).

Pleasant surprises of the bunch:

Solomon Burke (porrrn), Simone (Can??a,Can??a = whoa!), Mayall (jazzier and funkier than I expected), Ole Kock Hansen ("Der Staar En Lind" sounds like Ramsey in '71), American Breed ("Short Skirts = nice fuzzy psych-pop-rock), Cesar Frazier (some funky midtempo disco on this), Merit Hemmingson (jazzfunky hammond versions of swedish folklore tunes), Fasia (Black German folk-singer with some very funky backing tracks).

Some 7-inches:

* Big Youth "Hit The Road Jack/Tippa Style" (Negusa Nagast)
* Samantha Jones & The Larry Page Orchestra (The T-C Theme/Ford Leads The Way) - Ford promotion record from '71
* Finn Savery & Asger Petersen "Sang Og Musik Fra TV-Serien Om Drengen Henry" (Wilhelm Hansen Edition) - spare
* Bohannon "Run It Down Mr. DJ/Disco Stomp" (Brunswick)
* Georgie Fame "Try My World/No Thanks" (CBS)

Some 12-inches:

* Kane Gang "Brother Brother/We'll Take This Train/Drink" (Kitchenware)
* A Certain Ratio "Guess Who pt 1 & 2" (Benelux)
* Mynk "Get Up And Dance (Dance With Me)" (Posse)
* Ingram "Smoothin' Groovin/DJ's Delight" (Streetwave)

+ miscellaneous commons i needed

"Huvva" is my first Marit Hemmingson, but definetely not my last. I'll be on the lookout for "Trollskog". I love the nordic feeling of stuff like this, like Bo Hansson and J:Son Lindh have as well. It has an air of familiarity for me, even though Denmark doesn't have the rough mountain-ambience of Norway, Sweden and Finland (at all!). There's something about those melodies that is unconsciously appealing to me.

We scandinavians be holdin it down!

I??ve asked some swedes what the hell Huvva! means, but nobody has a clue. To me it sounds like "Huvva! This is some serious organ-heat!" but then again that??s just me. Yeah, pretty much her entire discography is good.

Check out the feature the fine lads over at VinylVulture did on her, very informative stuff:

In addition to some funk45s from Agent45 (thx) I picked up this Bahamas LP at my local. I don't have a picture, it's the Mustangs "On Tha Rocks" (note spelling change so as not to get confused with the Whatnauts) on GBI records outta Freeport, Bahamas. They do two nice soul numbers that I enjoy, and are presented for your listening pleasure below. The drums on the first are kinda snappy, and make me wonder if the Mustangs got funky at another time in their career. Anyone know? K? A?

Mustangs - Someday We'll Be Together

Mustangs - What You Gonna Do 'bout It

Yeah, I like that Gimmicks cover too, the intro is nice... haven't listened to it in a while though.
Congrats on the white whale find hookup

Cosign on all Merit Hemmingson related joints... she rocks the dope tunes and square dance joints like no other.
