As always the "finds" threads inspire me to keep hunting, even though it's been really tough since my son was born in December.

Set a new record for "best thrift store finds" with these a few weeks ago, Wray was still sealed:



Stumbled upon a shop during my travels for work Sunday, almost walked out disappointed before I noticed a well-hidden rack of 45s. Went up to the counter happy to pay $2 for the NM Joy Lovejoy when dude at the register asks if I wanna see the ones behind the counter. He warns me that these aren't 1 or 2 dollars like the others I just went through, so I'm expecting maybe some overpriced Beatles & classic rock stuff (which was 95%+ of their LP selection). Was pleasantly surprised and walked away with a nice little pile for $30.

I havent posted finds in a long time, but I did pick up a lot of stuff last fall and winter, just never got organized to post it up. As usual, 99% is from estates/barns/storage/collections via a local connect, lots of raw stuff that hasnt been in circulation for many years. Anyway heres the highlights:

It's interesting that Stu Gardner and his band did a song for the nightclub scene in 'Faces', which incidentally is not on the soundtrack S_66 found, as well as for the club scene from 'Point Blank'; a colorful and action packed film, unlike the former, the previous year.

united sound live and touchables were first time picks ups for me this year too that i liked

its basically an ad from Gibson, talking about the Ripper (a cool bass they long since stopped making), with interview and playing demos from Dartanyan from Chase, then on side B theres other famous bass players, excerpts form some songs and i think some more soundbite quotes. I really dont know where this was supposed to be played... unless maybe it was a freebie that you got with the bass purchase?

Were Patrick Sky and Dave Van Ronk in some kind of coat-share program?





In an odd coincidence, just the other day I pulled out that kinda dirty Patrick Sky record with the Dave Van Ronk cover on it (the monstrous and excellent "Luang Prabang").

Nice folk records in there. That AP Carter from late in his life is a cool oddity.

I got all the Paulo Diniz I will ever need now! These are basically all the ones I didn't have before.

Lucia Turnbull was the other half of Cilibrinas do Eden, the all-girl project Rita Lee did that was released as a boot a few years back. This album is very 80s, but it has some decent songs.


The Marcos Valle is maybe the beginning of his boogie-ish phase.


Luis Vagner has that slightly cheesy brazilian reggae vibe, but it's got some fun songs like Crioulo Glorificado

the Zez├® Motta also has some of that 80s production, but there are some cool songs like Sete Faces and Oxum


The L├┤ Borges is the 80s reissue, I'm happy with that until I find an OG.

Geraldo Azevedo with the classic Taxi Lunar


Cesar Costa Filho is mostly straight foward, nicely produced samba, with one or two tracks like Guarida.
