Particularly free jazz, spiritual jazz, or bop, that I may not own/have heard.

Well, what *have* you heard? It's hard to recommend something that somebody's never heard when we're not aware of what you've already listened to.

All Mal Waldron
Sonny Sharrock - Monkey-Pockie-Boo
John Coltrane - Africa/Brass, Interstellar Space
Sonny Rollins - East Broadway Run Down
Art Ensemble of Chicago - Certain Blacks

I know you all know these already but heres some good one's

My fault. Basically, i'm talking about obscure, overlooked, or just plain underappreciated records that you'd recommend.

Have you heard anything by the swedish group Mount Everest? If not I think you'll like their first two LP's "Mount Everest" (from 72) and "Waves from Albert Ayler" (from 75). The latter was reissued on cd by Atavistic not to long ago.

The finnish conducter maestro Olli Ahvenlahti did two incredible

jazz funk albums during the seventies: Bandstand and The poet. Comes highly recommended .. in fact I'll post both if there is another record day comming?

i'd like to recommend wayne shorter - speak no evil. if you havent heard it yet, hear it. if you have heard it (which maaaaaaay be possible

), hear it again. and again. and again.

Dewey Redman 'The Ear of the Beholder'
Heath Brothers 'Marchin' On'
Jimmy Smith 'The Sermon'
Art Farmer 'Farmer's Market'
Art Blakey 'Ping Pong'
Freddie Hubbard 'Backlash'
Junior Mance 'The Soulful Piano of...'
Ornette Coleman 'Skies of America'
Abbey Lincoln 'Abbey is Blue'
Lee Morgan 'Cornbread'

and in general you can't fuck with Lee Morgan or Hank Mobely on Blue Note, Charles Mingus on Impulse (or any label), etc, etc. There's a LOT out there. In general I don't try to grab OGs on jazz cos its usually outta control $$$wise. I have a few things, but you can easily go broke trying to get yer lexington address on, OG Prestige/Riverside/etc, etc. But you can catch a lot of quality reissues used for pretty cheep, the whole 180g series from a minute ago, or japanese reissues from the early 90's. The OJC series from fantasy isn't the greatest pressings but they're also worth checking, better sound quality than Killa Kuts at least. Btw, wassup with those T-shirts? Its the new style, bootleg the bootleggers.

$??
