I was turned onto this via Cosmo Baker(https://www.mixcloud.com/cosmobaker/cosmo-baker-present-episode-1/). The vocals & instrumentals are on point. The production is so precise but still has a very live and raw quality. They capture that "old yet new" vibe so well, with a great back beat. Yet, somehow in this day and age, the makings and members of this group remain a mystery.(Cosmo provided some deets (?songwriters for leon bridges and H.E.R.?) but I forget precisely)

My wife says its because they are not real and its only a computer simulation. My rumor that I would like to baselessly spout is that it is actually Questlove & friends but it violates a contract of his so is keeping it on the DL.

Oh this is goood. It definitely has the thumbprints of a hip-hop producer on it (the breaks, the snare sound on Masterpiece) so Questlove is as good a rumor to spin as anyone. I wanna know the truth though - who's singing? Who's writing? Thanks for flagging them up.

Thanks! I now remember Cosmo mentioned a writer for Michael Kiwanuka in the podcast. I briefly tried to scan through to verify and gave up(hence the "?" surrounding leon bridges and HER), deciding we're in a post truth era anyway. I'm going full rumor mill and doubling down on Questlove.

Know nothing about who this is but saw Platurn post about it a few weeks back and have been listening to them ever since. No back story just letting the music speak for itself. Both Lps were an instant cop.

Nope it's not Questlove.

Sault is a group from the UK. It's spearheaded by a guy named Dean Josiah Cover (who also goes by the name Inflo) who's done songwriting and production for Michael Kiwanuka alongside Dangermouse, as well as having worked with the UK rapper Little Simz (who is really dope you should check the new album), songwriting and production for the band Jungle as well as some other stuff. His main collaborators on Sault are a UK based singer/ songwriter named Cleo Sol, and Kid Sister (yes, THAT Kid Sister.) Together the three of them make up the nucleus of Sault - although there may be some other people involved in it as well.

Finally dug into both albums and I'm really digging "5" but not so much the follow-up "7", anyone else feel this way?
Second album sounds like cuts that were dropped from the first, a few decent jams but the vibe and spark of the first one isn't there IMO.

Lol, I swear I had the exact opposite revelation the other day. I think I felt that 7 had better songs (man). We might just have different tastes but I'm going back to listen to 5 now inanycase...

Okay, I'm two songs in on 5 and already thinking I'm wrong. I actually haven't listened to this one in headphones or above the clouds yet - just in the car a couple times, so this is a great listen.

Edit: Evidently, I need to work on the bass in my whip

Edit2: Yeah, I feel like 5 is more nuanced and wide-ranging, and 7 is more straight ahead. But I wouldn't characterize 7 as outtakes.

yeah I enjoyed that 11 album at points but they do get a little too jeebus crazy for my tastes, and it would've been ok if they had kept the jazz funk or whatever going but they kind of don't

to be honest, i haven't even had time to check these, and haven't been able to keep up in general with their pace of releases. but if there's one thing i do like, it's hoarding music.

seriously, it's great that they're so productive - amazing, actually. but i haven't had the space to really dive into their new stuff starting with Rise onward...
