Shave Strut

Not sure this has ever really been delved into here. Love me a good shave, be it by barber or at home. Had a full beard for about 6 or 7 years now, so I've gotten quite good at shaving.

However, only in the past year or so have I really gotten into researching the illest methods. Right now, I'm rocking:

- NY Shaving Co Pre Shave Oil (no pic -- but like this stuff. Feel like I can find better, though)

100% pure badger

Lavender -- so dope.

And for the razor --

The latter being where I'm falling off a bit. I rock a straight razor w/ replaceable blades, the kind where you snap the blade in half. So far, it's done me well, like it a fair amount. However, it's extremely easy to cut yourself, even with the slightest bit of pressure, and it's, well, sort of cheap.

Thinking about upgrading big time to a traditional pearl handle straight razor, but not sure I want to deal with getting a strop and sharpening stone.

Finally, after all's said and done, I'm still rocking the same after shave balm that I have been for about 5 years now:

Love this stuff -- always done well by me and was marketed PERFECTLY when it came out. Made me a lifelong fan.
HOWEVER, if someone knows about something better, I'd be keenly interested.

Anyone down with this world or am I just going to get crickets? Figured there might be a few on here who know what's up.

I'm sporting the biggest beard I've ever had. Two months into it. It's a hot mess. I cannot wait to finally get a job so I can afford razorblades and shave it the fuck off...I wonder what's under there...





I may pay someone to do the hot str9 razr barbershoppe shave, I've never done that...

i recently trimmed the biggest beard id had in a long while back, i regret it, so im currently growing a new one.





its a waiting game, its a challange, its an obsession.





i didnt start shaving till i was 24, now, 13 years later if i dont shave daily the damn hair grows to my eyes. my beards freaky too, i have black, brown, grey and more than a tinge of the ginge.





those pesky grey ones grow twice as fast as the others and straight out.





aftershave balm? whatever moisturiser the wife has at the time.





and after over ten years of using hair clippers to shave my face i brought on of those braun cruisers, its a toy but it does the trick.

Though I still rock the beard, I got a couple straight razor trims/shaves in Mexico recently. As far as aftershave is concerned, they just used pure rubbing alcohol and yes it burns like you can't imagine but I'll be damned, I never got any razor burn or ingrown hairs.

for real though, I feel you on the Nivea only thing I've found to be better is this:

I use the Roberts Method of Wet Shaving (RMWS). It takes longer to shave but it works best for me because I have really sensitive skin. Getting setup isn't cheap but once you have everything it seems to last a while. Although, double edge safety razor blades are *much* cheaper than buying Mach4 blades or similar and they seem to last longer too.

I have had a beard for about 7 years. I shaved it off once in that time and immediately grew it back. I use my wife's purple ladies razor and whatever hypo allergenic shave cream she is using to shave my neck and beard line. I never have any problem with razor burn. I shave in the shower, it takes a minute or two tops. I have tried all of that fancy shaving gear and none of it really seems worth it to me.

I used to always use that Nivea aftershave but the last few times I tried to buy it mufuckah was like close to ten bucks here. Even though it lasts a while, that's just ridiculous.





I need to figure out a better way to shave my head beyond these Gillette things. I remember yung_rillz posted up some head blade shit a few years back the last time I asked about that but I wasn't sure if he was serious or not and I forgot to ask.

Some people here are making this way too complicated (and expensive).





I scrub my face with a soft loofah first, it gets all of the whiskers exposed and pushes down the bumps that tend to come up around them. I think this is actually the key to a good shave.





I use Tom's shaving cream that comes in the toothpaste tube. It's by far the best I've used and I've tried a bunch of different kinds. You only need an amount the size of a small pea and tube lasts forever. A thick lather is useless, the only part that does anything is the part that's touching your skin - the rest just clogs your razor.





I'm too scared of the straight razor, though I hear Double Ducks are the best. I use the Gillette Mach 3 and it seems fine, though the blades are a rip-off.





For an after shave I use a non-alcohol witch hazel.





I have a pretty thick beard (I was shaving at 14), but when I'm done you can barely tell I have one at all.
