State of the Strut

Anto99 said: newbie bashing.

What made this place so great in the first place.

Kids need some thicker skin these days

Those who have withstood teh gauntlet have generally turned out to be some pretty exemplary poasters.

You mean the state where I value a long-time regular contributor who other posters turn to with music questions, requests to moderate and who can speak on any number of subjects with knowledge and humour. Someone who can take it as good as he can give it without calling the waaahambulance (I see you about to pounce, D. Don't!) and who I consider a friend and a stand-up guy?

Or the state where a zero calories fairweather poster is calling the site lame?

Yall wanna get back on track before the man himself makes an appearance and yall big up him for the third time today? lol

.

As a Strut OG, I agree with this completely. The whole clique/coming to the defense of somebody thing is lame too. If Yuichi has some slick shit to say about Batmon, let Batmon handle it. Even better, maybe Batmon will never see it or just choose to ignore it and Yuichi will give up 'cause he's not getting the attention he wants. I know that will never happen though so it's just wishful thinking. (Yes, I saw Bassie's post just as I started to type this.)

Anyways, I've suggested it before, but a tagging function similar to Facebook could be nice. Notice I said "SIMILAR." Last time I posted this people completely twisted it into me wanting this to work in conjunction with Facebook. My suggestion is not FB related AT ALL.

Say I see a thread that would be of interest to Tripledouble however T**y is too busy to see it or the original subject title was of no interest to him. I could say something like "Oh, I'm pretty sure *tag*Tripledouble*/tag*has that record," which would in turn generate a flashing envelope orange circle alert (and maybe an email?) so that he could check out the thread and chime in. Threads take so many twists and turns these days that you can't really go on subject title alone.

It's possible that this could bring some of the OG heads out of retirement too. Maybe an email/message alert could let them know they're still loved and we still value their input.

Or not. Just my two cents.

I said it before and I'll say it again, I HEART SOULSTRUT. Made many friends and have two godchildren because of this place. Yes, some of you get on my goddamn nerves, but for the most part I bite my tongue (fingertips?) and K.I.M. I don't get too emotional about it 'cause I ignore the bait/trolls, which probably has a lot to do with why I'm still here. Shit, I barely contribute anything as worthwhile or deep as some of you, but I still feel at home.

I like this a lot.

Get an avatar Herm, cmon son!

Folks talk unwarranted shit about people I like and/or who I don't think deserve it, I will say something. Real life and internets.

Whether or not Batmon wants to respond has nothing to do with it. If he asks me to step off, though, I will.

You do your own lame shit and I'll do mine.

tripledouble said:i still check in regularly, but end up skimming through.

in all honesty, the record talk is on waxidrome...not that i am over there much either. but there are few dealers, store owners, and "out every day" collectors on here anymore...horseleech, rich, laswerwolf, knobbynucks...and most of them post over there too. folks over there grind out for records like we used to 8 years ago. so when quantity turns up on some shit, or there is some new discovery, thats the place to find out. the lowdown on ARC, FMU, etc? over there. theyve taken that cape, without a doubt and its not just weird records that suck (but its those too of course). its a great site. still, my interests align with soulstrut a lot more and i value the opinions of a lot of folks on here quite a bit and would miss them if the site was put to rest. i definitely build with people from here in the real world tho.

mixes on here are a treasure trove that ive turned a lot of non-forum browsing people on to

i support raj in whatever decision hes gotta make. im also fine with soulstrut as it is now. still a highly worthwhile place to stroll through.

I was signed out of Waxi a long time ago and haven't bothered to sign back in.

Have not checked it or contributed there in a long long time.

I think we should be posting in the music threads.

And dudes who pop in to put their two cents about the "state" should make it a priority to talk music.

Yuichi you still my dude But you gotta seriously graduate from the hatt. Youll never be as cool as me.

The point is, let Faux Rillz deal with it. His name is his name*.

Hey wait... The point is let Herm deal with it.

*Actually it is not his name at all, it is a once cleaver fake name.

Nope. Pretty sure I've said one thing in, what?, 2 years about him specifically. Everything else I've said has been in regards to posters IN GENERAL, HOWEVER one or two people have piggybacked off my words to "step to him." And I have ignored their posts so as not to appear like I was trying to rally people to "my side." I've been very careful with this because I feel very strongly about talking down on someone who's not here to defend themselves. Apparently I haven't tried hard enough because you and probably others feel the way you do. Oh well...

My point is that this kind of attitude is not really what is going to save a website.

When I started posting here in 2001 I said a lot of dumb, and mean, shit, some of which I regret, some of which my older self chuckles at and says yeah, well... I would say it differently now. But it's truth.

But the truth of soulstrut is that it brought some disparate ass forces together for good, men and women that were far beyond six degrees of separation, but who spent much time and got to know each other and put a lot of great shit out here on these internets. You could bust that down to "creating content" in today biz-web-speak. But the power there is real, and this is where it happened.

Now, in 2012, I know a lot of these motherfuckers. Some of them were at my wedding, and one DJ'd it. Some of them have met my kid. And I've met some of their kids. Some, we always get up and have a meal. And a couple of them passed and I'll never fucking see them again and it kills me. But the truth is that we're were not interacting on soulstrut anymore anyway. It moved beyond.

If Rick doesn't want to continue Soulstrutdotcom, fuck man, he has done his damn thing. He's got other things that he would like to do. Let him.

Would the lot of you posters, who actually poast, want to keep soulstrut? then who is going to step up and do it?

the3rdstream sighting in 2012: RAER

You know this place is fine when there's fights within the "state of teh strut" thread.

I'd hate to see the strut go, but I support whatever Raj feels is best.

I know of a couple BIG things on the horizon, and we will need soulstut to be alive and well to break the news. I'm not at liberty to speak in any more detail, but I sure hope the strut is up and running when the news breaks.

how can we help you Raj?
