The logos make me want to own more of the LPs but what's really cooking on these labels? I haven't heard anything on Uni that I really felt but I must be missing something (?)

Here's a couple I know and love

Uni - Quincy Jones "The Lost Man" OST

The Hook "HOOKED"

Blue Thumb - Cold Blood and also Voco Kesh "Lights Out San Francisco"

Also on Blue Thumb: the first Sylvester LP has a smokin' cover of "Southern Man"

Chisa - :cosine: on Masakela!

"Hugh Masakela and the Union of South Africa" LP is dope too

Good info on the label here:http://www.bsnpubs.com/abc/bluethumb.html

Buddy and the Jrs is a favorite of mine. Only for people who like blues.

Truckin' with Albert Collins - Albert Collins

Sweet Black Angel - Earl Hooker

A Bad Donato - Joao Donato

Luis Gasca - Luis Gasca

Chastisement - Last Poets

Space Is the Place - Sun Ra

Private Tonight - Arthur Adams

Introducing Hedzoleh Sounds - Hugh Masekela

Memphis Swamp Jam-Memphis Blues Festival - Various Artists This might be my favorite Blue Thumb

Home Is Where the Music Is - Hugh Masekela Masekela's best IMO

Darkess Darkness - Phil Upchurch

Come Into Knowledge - Ramp

Blue Thumb was a high quality label and their records are always worth giving a spin.

On Uni:

New Time Element - Emil Richards

New Sound Element: "Stones" - Emil Richards

Big Black was on Uni

Dancin' Through the Streets - Johannesburg Street Band

Ooh Ooh the Dragon & Other Monsters - Marvin Holmes with the Uptights I've never had this one, but I want it.

Israelites - Desmond Dekker And The Aces

Whirlpool - Mirettes

The Intimate Side of Sandra Alexandra - Sandra Alexandra This has it's charm, but could also go in a diggers mistake thread.

Flamenco Funk - Jan Davis

Badfoot Brown & the Bunions Bradford Funeral & Marching Band

Bill Cosby Talks to Kids About Drugs

Follow the Leader - Eric B. & Rakim

lots of great uni titles. add these to laser's list:

warm dust-peace in our time

the aquarians- jungle grass

ebony rhythm funk campaign

mars bonfire- debut

edit: be warned, despite awesome covers, all fever tree lp's suck ass

Starting this thread is making me trawl back through my old Crusaders LPs and all their wholesome down home glory

Yes. First that came to mind for me.

There's a bad ass Yaphet Kotto 45 on Chisa & the first Sylvester LP was on Blue Thumb which I really like.

I wanna know why masekela's "drumbago" ( I'm messing up the spelling probably) 45 is so hard to find...Motown put it in their complete singles boxset (I guess Motown owned chisa In the early 70s) so I am assuming there is a 45....that tune is brutal, need it on 45 bad.

What's his stuff on Uni like? I've only heard a few things so far and from what I gather it's pretty pop-vocally , not my kind of thing, which is a shame cos there 's some mean artwork. Anyone got any divshare files?

What exactly have you heard? I can't think of any of hid Uni stuff that's not predominantly instrumental.

B/w

Pick up Bill Cosby's "Hikky Burr" 45 on Uni

The obvious Grazing in the grass and some vocal tracks off the self titled "Masekela" LP. Cant find samples of the "Latest" Lp or this one for example
