WORLD CUP THRAED

Was talking to a friend about Argentina, and more specifically how unlucky Messi is to be at the peak of his career during one of the rare moments that the rest of the national team is abysmal, and it occurred to me that barring Messi, there aren’t many of the Argentina team I think would get into the England team.

Any nominations?

Banega instead of Henderson?
Aguero or Dybala instead of Sterling or Lingard (neither would play instead of Kane)?
But the entire defence and rest of midfield? Has Di Maria regressed that much?

I guess the main difference between Portugal and Argentina at this point is that the idiots surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo at least manage to stay organized. Argentina are horrible aside from their attack, but I think there were better options at defense and in goal that didn't get called up, maybe because they don't play in Europe. We'll have to wait for Simeone to take charge and put some blood thirsty defenders and midfielders in there.
Brazil still keep shitting their pants under the weight of expectations (who the fuck has any expectations????), and Neymar had a bout of the Thiagosilvas at the end of the game today.

Fake tears from Neymar was cringe inducing as fuck. Scores a goal against the mighty Costa Rica after comically flopping for a penalty, how’s he going to top that reaction if he actually does something meaningful?

No-class idiot. Somehow didn't get booked for the fake penno. Brasil, has it really come to this, diving to win? Sócrates and dem turning in dey graves.

Neymar will never be mentioned in a GOAT conversation as long as he is the world’s biggest pussy. He’s a talent, but more dislikable than Ronaldo. Saw a clip from the Costa Rica game and the ref was separating arguing players; his fingers barely brushed Neymar’s chest and the obnoxious little shit yapped at the ref not to touch him. I’d pay to see Joey Barton clean his clock for the hell of an instant red card.

Ze Jormins doe.

As soon as they gave away that free kick I thought a goal would come of it, but wow, great strike!
Sweden had opportunities to end it, didn’t take them.
Hope Southgate bears this in mind *cough* Sterling/Lingard *cough, cough*.

The set-piece goal was great, even though Sterling aimed straight at the keeper. Happy for Lingard - amazing strike.

Been watching and enjoying, ignoring all the politics. Has there been any problems outside of the pitch yet?

England are surprising me; I'm normally a hater tbh.

I see Mexico strengthening over the tourney.

Iran/Portugal should be good tomorrow.

Putin knows Teh West would love an opportunity to point the finger and the whole thing seems to be happening without incident.
Would also say that while it doesn’t have the party atmosphere of Brasil, the games have been much better.

A woman I teach says the Iranian team look like well groomed models. And my girlfriend likes watching Iceland players... just doing anything.

:whycry:

I wonder how the merriman feels watching Panama and Costa Rica put all that CONCACAF class on display

Yeah, the best teams don’t necessarily make it; feels weird seeing a World Cup without Italy or Holland. Mind you, they might be happy they weren’t on the end of a 6-1!

...............

Tonight’s drama was brilliant - 2 minutes of football remaing and Spain potentially going out, they get a dodgy VAR decision (and no VAR decision on if it should’ve be a goal kick instead of a corner), Iran get a penalty that would knock Spain out, ref overturns the offside and calls goal, Iran score the penalty and Spain top the group!

Last night was fantastic, classic final group game drama. The only shame was neither Spain or Portugal actually went out.

Tonight should hopefully be quite juicy as well.

The general mood in Germany seems to remain meh, teh crafty Deutsch spotted the potential weakness in the team and decided to pretend they didn't really care before the tournament started. Having said that, the Kroos last minute freekick did induce beer soaked celebrations that were highly enjoyable.

Goes without saying that England are going to win it now. It's coming home boys.

Goes without saying that this will happen since I’m not living there anymore.Fuck it, if we make the final I’m booking a flight back for the pissed-up 3 day Ragnarok* that would occur if we won it.

Another great night of drama. Not sure Argentina really deserve to go through :/

That Argentina/Nigeria game was entertaining! Argentina is lucky to still be in this bish.

Ha ha! This was actually my first reaction to the current performance too. All those years of waiting for a good performance and as soon as I move away....meanwhile my supposedly reliable new home is self-destructing beautifully.I've also sworn to fly over should when we make the final. It will truly be the end of days. I predict unstoppable swarms of obese topless men, their guts slathered in St George's crosses marked out in blood, running riot in the streets while Three Lions blares from every window. That's two days in a row where the group favourites have dabbled with disaster but still gone through. Despite all the drama, there have actually been no big teams going out yet. Not trying to curse today or anything.
