 - One Step Ahead

  • Aretha Franklin

    One Step Ahead LP (1965)

    Columbia

Beautiful early Aretha release that enjoyed some success on the R&B charts in the mid 60s.  It was rediscovered in the late 90s after Mos Def sampled it for his 1999 hit indie rap song "Ms. Fat Booty." "One Step Ahead" was never released on LP.  The B side "I Can't Wait Until I See My Baby's Face" was sought after by northern soul collectors making it a scare & expensive 45 by the time people came back around to appreciate teh A side.  Translation: all the blokes are hoarding them. Thankfully, the song is available on a few Greatest Hits compilations in the US and Europe.
