 - Wild Thing

  • Armando Peraza

    Wild Thing LP (1969)

    Skye Records

The lone album released by Cuban percussionist Armando Peraza.  Peraza had been playing in Cal Tjader's latin jazz band for a few years before he was signed to his label Skye Records to record his debut in 1969.  The result is a unique latin jazz album with heavy congas and a groovy swing (suitable for a B-Boy environment).  Highlights include "Funky Broadway", "Souled Out", and the title cut.  The album was arranged and co-produced by Gary McFarland who died mysteriously in a New York bar from liquid methadone poisoning.  The Skye label folded shortly after this release.
