the young holt version is flugel/french/trumpet? horn heatness maximus
I just played the Fatback Band version on the radio last week, it's smoothness defined. Dee Felice version is a beauty, too. Dells for the vocal is aces, although the Johnny Cash version from a couple years back is prolly my favorite of them all.
HELL JEAH
How could I forget that one? But don't let all the dope jazz / funk / soul covers obscure the beauty of the Glen Campbell OG!

And I need you more than want you (classic)
And I want you for all time
And the Wichita Lineman
is still on the LIIIIIIIIINE

That is some beautiful schitt, mane. You think I be trippin' over old ass rap and "that real schitt"? Y'all REALLY got me in my zone now, batches!!! LITE ROCK WAS MY SCHITT EVEN BEFORE THAT REAL SCHITT WAS MY SCHITT!!!

THIS THREAD HAS A SERIOUS DEARTH OF LEO SAYER AND THREE DOG NIGHT FOLLS!!!

Along with what has been mentioned for the most part:

Poor Side of Town-Johnny Rivers
Up Up and Away-Fifth Dimension
Fire And Rain-James Taylor

DCastle made me a custom Michael Martin Murphey 45 sleeve, but
he left out the "e" in Murphey.

We'll consider this a pressing error, and bids start at 75 dollers
on this one-of-a-kind work of art.

RAJ, I'll see your "Lady" by LRB, raise you a "Lady" by Styx,
a "Lady" by the Commodores and a "Lady" by Kenny Rogers.

On the late, and countrypolitan end of AM Gold to follow lady
we have an Eddie Rabbit THREEFER:
"I Love A Rainy Night"
"Drivin' My Life Away"
"Step By Step"

]
OH SHIT! YOU DIDN'T JUST SAY EDDIE RABBIT??? DAYUMMM.

See mahfahkas who was listening to the radio in the 70s get weepy on some "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald".
It's amazing that this was a huge hit record in the year of "Play That Funky Music" and "Disco Duck" - I mean, "Edmund Fitzgerald" just kinda goes on and on, it doesn't even have a recognizable hook line!

BTW,as if anyone really cares........

THEY KILLED OLDIES FM CBS 101.1 in NYC one of the FEW PLACES TO HEAR AM GOLD
shit. these fucks just took over our only golden oldies station too. fuck this bullshit.
Yeah, but payback is a bitch, though...a generic commercial-alternative station just switched to all oldies, and now all these Coldplay fans are bitching and moaning...

Not quite - I took care of that in an earlier thread.

Now here's AM GOLD - THE (MOSTLY FAKE) REGGAE EDITION:
DESMOND DEKKER & THE ACES "Israelites"
PAUL SIMON "Mother & Child Reunion"
J. GEILS BAND "Give It To Me"
LED ZEPPELIN "D'yer Maker"
DAVE & ANSELL COLLINS "Double Barrel"
JIMMY CLIFF "Wonderful World, Beautiful People"
BLUE HAZE "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes"
ERIC CLAPTON "I Shot The Sheriff"
STEVIE WONDER "Boogie On, Reggae Woman"

Wondering did anybody say

"Sentimental Lady" by Bob Welch

better than the F.Mac Bare Trees version.

F'in stellar.
A 3-hit intro tom fill and he's in with

You are here and warm
But I could look away and you'd be gone
Cause we live in a time
When meaning falls in splinters from our lives
And that's why I've travelled far
Cause I come so together where you are
And all of the things that I said that I wanted
Come rushing by in my head when I'm with you
14 joys and a will to be merry
And all of the things that we say are very
Sentimental gentle wind
Blowing through my life again
Sentimental Lady
Gentle one

You want to give a 43 year old lady 14 joys, just drop this one.

Paul Davis - "I Go Crazy"
I AM GOING TO SAMPLE THE SCHITT OUT OF THIS RECORD ONE DAY. Boring and uninspired? No. Boring and VERY inspired!!!
Yeah.. I was going to remark that the synth stabs at the end are MAD MOODY!

I believe it's the station formerly known as "The Zone" - 94.7??

I should mention that this is in Chicago...

It's good to hear that as one dies, a new one is born, but damn. Magic 104.3 was around since I was a small child. I think it even predates my existence.

On the one hand, you're right - 104.3 was the soundtrack of seemingly every old-school diner in Chitown, both retro and OG, and it will be missed. But then again, I kinda prefer WRLL (1690 on the AM), because they dig deeper and they don't neglect the fifties. (For the last few years of its' life, 104.3 focused on the sixties and seventies exclusively.)
