Anybody do a post-punk DJ night?

It wouldn't be so difficult to organize a weekly/monthly show (If you have some money to spent, of course).
There are so many possibilities with post-punk; you can throw in some no-wave,
minimal-synth, cold wave, focus on certain countries... I'm a sucker for german wave, Neue Deutsche Welle, for instance.
yeah, NDW and cold/synth/minimal/dark wave is a whole other bag that is endlessly deep, only works on certain crowds in america though. NDW especially can be totally floor clearing, something about shouting in german makes people uncomfortable. at an open minded night (or if you build the energy right) is can be amazing...a room full of people going apeshit to "co co pino" is a slight to behold. tough to pull off though.
pretty good NDW thread here:

i've DJed post-punk for years and most of what works is really just rockist disco. there's obviousuly a whole style and cache of songs that club kids are now comfortable within the early 80s blur of post punk, new wave, left field disco, proto-techno/house, whatever. "disco-not-disco" is a stupid term but it definitely describes a real sound that a lot of people go for, and it's all been pretty well mapped out. post punk is really just a jump of point for a lot of that.

I play Fehlfarben - Ein Jahr (es geht voran) almost every time and it works great. I'd love more stuff like that. I'm pretty sure it's the disco BWOO that does it.

I love this song and video but it clears the floor. I'm sure they must have better danceable songs.

The Disco Not Disco compilations might also be helpful in sussing out some key tracks, as a starting point.

I feel like a lot of this stuff (especially at the fringes of the genre) has the potential to be floor-clearing if not handled just so.

this is a humbling thread. there is so much good stuff out there that i had no IDEA even existed!

A lot of this kind of stuff is getting the re-edit treatment at the moment so it's worth checking new release disco/edit at Juno or where ever.

zounds--war (jd twitch edit)

prinzhorn dance school--you are the space invader

hot chip--over and over (maurice fulton dub)

does any know how to preserve this thread so all this great info survives after the migration this weekend?

Sorry if this one has been posted already:

Set The Tone / Dance Sucker
Oh, shit...

The 12" of this had a mad Kervorkian mix of a tune called Let Loose on the b-side - nine minutes of virtually nothing but dubbed-out 808. Sounded pretty freaky in '83.

They had another single as well - an album, too, IIRC. The bassist Bobby Patterson was really good, but it appears from Wikipedia that he died a few years ago.

Let Loose is a crazy tune!
Played it out a few years ago, last tune of the night. Sounded crazy in a club.
Sadly the doormen had thrown all customers out of the dance floor area at that point.

That Set the Tone stuff is pretty great; I was not aware of it before!

More Byrne-related stuff:

OMG. I just typed "post punk" into the search function and this was the first thread. IN the old forum I would have got every thread that contains the letter "p" of some random shit.

yeah. and the Our Lips are Sealed 12" has a great remix sung in Urdu.

This one was actually reissued on vinyl recently, so you won't have to drop a mint to get a hold of it.

I'm kind of wondering if some of Suicide's stuff like "Diamonds, Fur Coat, Champagne" might work at a night like this. Might be worth a shot.

12" version of this is great and easy to find. (needs to be pitched up a little IMO)
