<font class="post"1<b,121<b,121I dunno, while it's immediate impact is pretty impressive (much like Arthur Adams stuff who preceeded him) in it's detail, after awhile I find myself feeling visually assualted by how manic it becomes. It feels overcrowded and hysterical too much of the time for me. I can see why people like it though, it's just not my cup of tea.

Basically anything Grant Morrison does is gold. My favorites are:<b,121<b,121<b1The Invisibles</b1 is

All-Star Superman</b1<b,121Basically this turned out to be the best, most lovingly written Superman epic of all time. It just wrapped and it's a thing of unbelievable beauty. Completely essential in my mind now. 12 issues. First TPB is out, second one soon probably.<b,121<b,121<img src="http://sexualityinart.files.wordpress.com/2008/05/all-star-superman-10-frank-quitely-grant-morrison-jamie-grant-s.jpg"1<b,121<b,121<b1Seven Soldiers</b1<b,121A sprawling, interconnected story about the DC Universe's history, taking some various "heroes" you've never really heard of or cared about. Different artists did different character's stories. It's glorious, complicated and time-spanning.<b,121<b,121<img src="http://www.numbmonkey.com/SeanStoryImages/sevensoldiers0.jpg"1

Cosign on Going Sane. I never cared too much for The Killing Joke. It's much more violent and whatnot than Going Sane, but GS feels like it's an adult story on an intellectual and emotional level...something I don't really get from KJ.<b, 21<b, 21Crisis On Infinite Earth is definitely a pretty good comic universe epic, a fun spectacle, important for changes to DC Universe and all that, but is definitely not for someone who is just getting back into comics. I'd say 52 is a much more enjoyable read for a guy wanting a sprawling crossover that doesn't require a lot of back story and knowledge of the DC Universe to appreciate.

Does All-Star Superman really pick up? I've only read the first trade. I'm still learning, reading, and appreciating more comics from the 50s-70s, and when I read the first trade, it kinda felt like listening to a retro-soul group...technically proficient and not bad by any means, but one would be better served just raiding the bins if looking for a nostalgia kick.
