TAKE THAT SHIT TO THE-BRITS.COM

I think the nature of the two goals we let in vs Bayern caused a loss of confidence in Arsenal at just the wrong time (credit to Villa though, Emery said before the game that he had worked out Arsenal’s system).
The first Bayern goal was really weird: Gabriel chasing back a highball, looking over his shoulder and aware that he’s being closed-down, goes to pass the ball back to the keeper… who’s nearly level with him at the centre-circle WTF. I’m no longer going to be an apologist for Aaron Ramsdale as he isn’t good enough with his feet, and Arteta’s team needs a “sweeper-keeper”, but I don’t think Raya is good enough either. Just better at that than Ramsdale. Raya’s distribution is terrible. Most of his long-passes go straight to the other team and he does this when under zero pressure. His judgement is a bit bi-polar. Either doesn’t leave the six yard box when you want him to claim a high ball or he has a mad rush of blood to the head.

Generally I think Arteta has done really well at drilling Arsenal into a disciplined unit but maybe at the expense of individual flair… not saying it’s as bad as a Mourinho team (where creative players go to die), but it seems they’ve lost the balance of having the freedom to take a player on and try a bit of skill or whatever. Last season was champagne stuff at the cost of defensive frailty, now we’ve tightened up at the back but often look a bit lost when plan A doesn’t work.

TL;DR credit to Citeh, the bar they set is close to perfection. Maybe Liverpool can take points off them, but I think we’ve all seen this film before and know how it’s going to end.

City just get consistent at the end of the season and usually it's (just) enough. That seems to be the key thing. Last month I didn't see Arsenal dropping any points, they were slick af.

For those who accuse the Prem of being a one-horse race, IIRC, I think the earliest city have won a title is week 33 of 38? Many of them are last-day-of-the-season jobs. The Covid season, LFC just got out of the blocks like Ben Johnson and it was all over by Christmas. Seriously.

There was nothing sweet about the Agüeroooo season either. Spend 93 minutes and 20 seconds of a game lamenting the fact that your team has bottled it against Joey fucking Barton et al, and Un*ted are there rubbing their hands to scoop the title. The few seconds until the end were just a continuation of that numbness.

Shout out to the one Barton doe - without his antics, there wouldn't have been extra time.

Balotelli to Wrexham would be a dream.

Well, I think Arsenal lost the league at the beginning of the season when Arteta was experimenting with playing Partey at RB(wtf), dropped Gabriel from the heart of defence, and insisted on playing Havertz week in, week out. We had the kind of slow start you can’t afford against Citeh, and while Havertz did finally come good, I can’t forget all the games it felt like we were playing a man-down. Consecutive 2nd place against the best team of the last two decades… and auf wedersehn to Klopp. Has been a brilliant season all told. Roll on the euros.

Congrats to the one SHEARS for the SS Fatnasty title. Obviously the league will still run when The Strut sees the sun go down, but there will be no banter here.

How about someone doing a Subreddit for Soulstrut? I don't have the power.

4 in a row is incredible. Pep will be gone after next season and City will be behind Arsenal, deffo. But always room for a "Ruining the league" post:

Also... There was no FFP until City won the lottery. So I want a thorough investigation into all previous winners, etc. etc. Asterisk man going to have a heart attack.

I was a little worried in the 2nd half. Question. Can Foden only perform under Pep?

He needs the swagger of Bellingham or the drunken roadman arrogance of Cole Palmer.

Also Phil will have no idea of how to play on the counter.

The Brasil vs. Costa Rica game which was held here in Los Angeles reminded me of the Arsenal vs Manchester friendly coming up. Worth the $100 ticket, even for seats in the nosebleeds?

only if you really want to see either of those teams. Pre-season friendlies are tepid affairs, and you're not even guaranteed to see the top players in action. A regular season game at LAFC for around $50 is probably a much better value, IMO. But $50 is still a lot to pay for an MLS game...

Good to know. Guess I'll spend that money to see the Headhunters at the Hollywood Bowl instead, also in the "cheap" seats.

I spent most of that England vs Slovakia game wondering if a manager has ever been sacked during a game.
Would still be happy to see him sacked before England play Switzerland.
