Arzachel - Arzachel

  • Arzachel

    Arzachel LP (1970)

    Roulette

Arzachel started out as the band Uriel in the late 60s legendary Canterbury scene (home of the Soft Machine) in the UK.  After guitarist Steve Hillage left for school, the rest of the members started the organ-based prog band Egg and signed to Decca Records.  They later secretly reformed Uriel and recorded under the name Arzachel while signed to Decca. Confused yet?  Arzachel is a one off session of organ based psych music with strong classical influences not unlike later Egg releases.  Beat heads take notice for their version of Keith Mansfield's composition "Queen St. Gang". It's groove that blow out your woofers if you are not careful. An original UK pressing on Evolution goes for loot, so if you are in need, cop the US release on Roulette.
