Hand picked records important to the history of Soul Strut.
The mildly popular Atomic Rooster was a UK prog band founded from the ashes of The Crazy World of Arthur Brown by organist phenom Vincent Crane and drummer Carl Palmer (pre ELP!) They didn't fully hit their stride until this record IMHO. 1971's In Hearing Of is a nice mix of organ based British blues rock with plenty of catchy soul and gospel grooves. The addition of ex-Cactus singer Pete French was a nice treat as well. This album is considered their most accessible and has a special place in crate digger's hearts thanks to heavy attention on the breaks and beats. It is none more evident than on tracks like "The Rock" , "The Price", and "Black Snake". Also check their Death Walks Behind You LP for the track "Gershatzer" which also has an incredible drum break.
