Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath

    Black Sabbath LP (1970)

    Vertigo

Ranked #75 in the Soul Strut 200

Black Sabbath is one of those bands that appeals to any demographic across the board, even the hip hop loving crate diggers here on Soul Strut.  While albums like Masters of Reality and Paranoid consistently made lists on here, the debut is where it all started.  Recorded in a day in a back alley London studio, their 1970 debut is a crispy demonic blues rock masterpiece that has just enough funk swing to appeal to those aren't from the metal ilk.  The best examples can be found on cuts like "Behind the Wall of Sleep" (Bill Ward gets live on the drums) and "N.I.B."  Black Sabbath mania on the Strut became such a thing that it yielded the clever "Sabbath in the Park" DJ series with Cosmo Baker at the helm.  Sabbath.  Park.  Mad Beer!
