Hand picked records important to the history of Soul Strut.
On the way home from a rumored (but non existent) Goodwill, I stopped in at one of my regular haunts and this piece was waiting for me. This is one of those records that has “the look”, I figured I was in for some Santana/Malo/El Chicano steez from the cover pic. Haters of the funky Latin rock beware, this piece is loaded with the product, add a sprinkle or two of psych and you’re good to go. Loads of Latin percussion, tight organ and dual guitar action (rarely without the wah-wah pedal), make for some serious aural pleasure. The vocals, when there are any, are in English, Spanish and Tagalog. The liner notes say that there’s a touch more of the jungle in this Philippino bands music and they ain’t lyin’.
