Hand picked records important to the history of Soul Strut.
Ranked #87 in the Soul Strut 200
ESG was an all female group, forming in the late 70s on the post-apocalyptic streets of the South Bronx. Their sound was a stripped down, rhythmic party drawing influences from the new wave and hip hop movements of the early 80s. Their self-titled six track debut EP on 99 records was recorded half in the studio and half live and relinquished an undeniably funky post punk attitude best demonstrated on the single "Moody". Hip Hop fanatics laud this EP for the spaced out instrumental "UFO" which if pitched down correctly relinquishes one of the most sampled songs in the history of hip hop
