Yeah I've never really sought out his stuff but when it came up I always enjoyed it. He was talented and did good with his money (which he had because he stayed independent and owned his own masters, I think). A shame.

It's true, unfortunately. He didn't recover after surgery. Rest easy. His name was on everything late 70s onward!

Playing Will Lee's "KAZ" Jazz bass, Will is filling in on the DX7. I never got to meet Robbie but I suspect the bulk of the Paul Reed Smith bass guitar collection is in his estate!

One of my all time favourite grooves was created in 1981 at Compass Point Studios in Nassau, Bahamas by Sly Dunbar (Drums), Sticky Thompson (Percussion) and Robbie Shakespeare (Bass) with Monte Brown, Barry Reynolds and Mao Chung sharing Guitar duties while Wally Badarou worked the Prophet 5 for the Alex Sadkin / Chris Blackwell produced "Pull Up To The Bumper" by Grace Jones.



I always felt that all commercially available versions needed to have the break extended, so here it is: A longer intro with lots of percussion breakdowns before the vocals come in and the Party version starts at 3:56.
