Were Optimo under-rated as DJs? Maybe under-appreciated? Any way, they were legends to me and I learned a lot from them in terms of records and styles.

Voodoo is a masterpiece. Earned his respect right there.

An incredible loss to music. I was always hoping we would get one more album out of him. His legacy of three nearly perfect albums will cement his legacy. don't remember being this sad since we lost Prince.

Ace Frehley.

Not really my lane but I think he would have made it in any band at the time, he seemed to be the one with a musical direction, whereas Gene was all about the lifestyle and image.

Man... Jimmy Cliff. I played "The Harder They Come" soundtrack when bathing my kids when they were tiny for about three years straight, every night. I grew up with that soundtrack too, my parents played it all the time. Impossible to objectively rate his music, or his performance in the movie, as it's all so wrapped up in every phase of my life.

Jack DeJohnette - he had that spiritual touch RIP

I never knew how accomplished he was as an all-round musician. Reading obituaries from his collaborators who thought he was a pianist first, etc. Some people just have an innate ability. I am definitely going to dig into anything recorded where he wasn't drumming. Starter recs?
