Horror movie recommendations?

I had an extremely hard time with this. The phrase "the unbearable Germnan-ness of being" kept coming to mind. It was too much for me - the acting was almost unbearable and was a real obstacle to paying attention to the greater story or mood.

Late Night With the Devil was pretty fun.
I tried rewatching the Crow a while back and just couldn’t get through. I really don’t know what we saw in it back then.

I would say yes, obviously. But John Kong is a well known DJ/collectro in Toronto. I used to go watch him DJ bitd and we even traded records once. He would be totally at home on a site like this and could prolly school most of us on certain things.

A lot of talk about Posession. I do love this one - Sam Neil/Adjani's awkward acting makes it eerie (dicks) for me. Opposite to Sam Neil in Into The Mouth of Madness, where it just comes off as overacting and not scary at all.
Bug is one of Friedkin's lesser known/later career pics that is one of a few movies to genuinely creep me out (I'm looking at you, Spirit of the Beehive) and, eventually, shock me. One of the first times I saw Michael Shannon and was blown away. Based on a Tracey Letts play (so fits alongside Killer Joe in that way).

I Saw The TV Glow is super unique and goes deep. Like a cousin to Donnie Darko (but totally different!).

I haven't seen either, but "At Midnight I'll Take Your Soul" and "This Night I'll Possess Your Corpse" will play at the theater near me as part of a José Mojica Marins (aka Zé do Caixão, which reminds me that there was someone named "Coffin Joe" here) tribute in the next week.
Yeah that omen prequel is surprisingly not bad at all!

What I would really like to see is more sequels to the Friday movies, until finally you get to the 13th where ice cube becomes a counselor at camp crystal lake, and the rest practically writes itself. Think about it. It would work.

Killer Joe is totally awesome. On the Drama featuring Murderous Psychopath end of the "Horror" spectrum I highly recommend these two:

I watched Terrifier last night to see what all the hype was about. It was...OK, I guess. The guy who plays Art is phenomenal, and I appreciated the whole '80s slasher flick aesthetic, but it kinda felt like less than the sum of its parts. Am I missing something?

It’s not just you. I remember thinking that maybe I’m just too old…?Wife and I watched Warlock from 1991 and it is definitely “so bad it’s good” in the most positive way. We laughed out loud. it wasn’t remotely frightening, but unlike a lot of these movies we weren’t bored either.
I like unintentional comedy in gory movies but I don't bother with "horror comedy". For example, as Bill listed, the first two Hellraisers will put unpleasant images in your head and hopefully fuel a nightmare right after. However, the third and others after jumped the shark and admittedly made me laugh at times.

Yeah, I'm probably just too old. It's the kind of trash I liked much more in my younger days, but now I'm just too "meh" about it.
I saw "Basket case" for the 2nd time recently, the first time being on a bootleg VHS back in the 80s.
The dialogue samples were used in some early 90s drum and bass tune and they are the best thing about it. It is at times comical.
The psychological ones get me the worst. My capacity for tension is almost non-existent after working a day full of stress. I'd rather watch "Beyond Skinwalker Ranch" and ponder the real-life questions this world has to offer.
Gotta get value for money from that tinfoil hat Harvey sold me.
