Most Edgy, Ballsiest song to open up a Rock album

Immigrant Song and both Sabbaths are good calls.

For me it will always be the first track off Vincebus Eruptum....hearing it for the first time in '68 was a mindblower.

The fact that it was a hit doesn't diminish it's raw power.

This one took a pair of brass ones, IMO.

I'll also add Smells Like Teen Spirit. We've all heard that one, so I'm not posting a link.

Cosign on "angel of death". Brutal

Might I add BOCs "The Red and the Black"

Sleep "Dragonaut" or maybe Stooges "Search and Destroy"?

Also, if you are going to go Sabbath, none of their LPs opened as large as the 1st one...Shit... thunder, rain and then that fucking riff...had to have been shocking as hell to have heard that with 1970 ears...fuck.

Unlike anything else that came before it. You knew you were in for it.

Also, great left field song choice.

C'mon dude, Coltrane? I don't know anyone who doesn't love him, but he is the furthest thing from rock that I can imagine. Not a left field choice, a more of a WTF choice. It would be like saying "ham" if asked what the best vegetable is.

Chuck Berry - Liverpool drive

Dk's - California Uber Alles

Cro-Mags - We Gotta know

Motorhead - Motorhead / Ace Of Spades

Fugazi - Turnover

Helmet - In The Meantime

Run DMC - Runs House

ok, so the whole side 1 is the opening track, but what an opening and what a scream!

not the first track on the LP...the LP's first track is a cover of Ted Taylor's "Ramblin' rose". KOTJ is the 2nd song.
