Ptah, The El Daoud LP (1970)

    Impulse! ‎

Ranked #1970 in the Soul Strut 200

Of all the great Alice Coltrane, this one and Journey In Satchidananda were celebrated the most on here.  You can always count on an Alice Coltrane album to take you to another place.  Her harp and piano work is other-worldly and listening to her work in the right environment can be a rare treat.  Ptah, The El Daoud is her third solo album featuring the great Pharoah Sanders and it's the album that set it off.  The whole album is great.  Tracks like "Blue Nile" and "Turiya and Ramakrishna" are sublime slices of soul jazz.  Some say this album rivals anything her husband John released.  if anything, it's complimentary.
