Brainticket - Cottonwoodhill

  • Brainticket

    Cottonwoodhill LP (1971)

    Bellaphon

I first heard this record in the early 2000s when a big teddy bear of a hippy dropped the needle on this beast in a suburban Philadelphia record store.  I was intrigued and frightened all at once.  This is not a record to put on while opening Christmas presents with the family. Brainticket was a psychedelic collective of Euro musicians who would be best categorized as "Kraut Rock", but hardcore fans of the band would argue otherwise (I don't think any of their members were German?). Their debut Cottonwoodhill seems to be the unanimous favorite with the crate digger types due to their funk rock foundation as most evident on the track "Places Of Light".  Cottonwoodhill was devised to be an aural representation of an acid trip.  Those of have journeyed inward have applauded their performance, especially on the 25 minute epic "Brainticket".
