    Wa-Tu-Wa-Zui (Beautiful People) LP (1971)

    Prestige ‎

Charles Kynard was an accomplished jazz keyboard player who made the gradual progression from soul jazz of the 1960s to funky jazz of the 1970s.  Most of his 70s output is snoozy and tepid organ funk except for this record. On Wa-Tu-Wa-Zui (Beautiful People), Kynard's jazz passages have a solid backbone thanks to groove vets Bernard Purdie and Idris Muhammad.  The highlight is his cover of George Harrison's "Something", an organ funk burner complete with a long drawn out four on the floor drum solo from Purdie himself.  It's definitely of the "Fire Eater" variety.
