Lord Finesse holds a special place in the hearts of both sample based producers and emcee aficionados. His early work had an obvious influence on critical darlings like Nas and Big L yet never enjoyed the mainstream recognition of his fellow cohorts. 1991's Return Of The Funky Man set the table for Finesse's signature metaphor / punch line delivery anchored by the hard hitting funk beats engineered by the DITC crew (Finesse along with Diamond D, Showbiz, etc.). DITC broke ground in the early 90s by unearthing obscure LPs with drum breaks, giving them their signature SP-1200 treatment. Their beats captured the imagination of hip hop producers for years to come (while giving records by musicians with the last Azzam mythical status.)
