Hi all,Im in Barcelona and Im digging through tons and tons of records for three days now... Great city, I can only recommend to come here and enjoy. As I came by a lot of 50's & 60s beat & freakbeat records, I rarely see funk, jazz, psych 70's stuff from spain / Catalania here. And if I see some stuff I don't know any of the important names. And once again I feel like Im lost in the field here without the good advise from the Strutting society. So please post your Spanish - Yeah, from Spain! - top selection of records here. A short description would be nice!!!thanks & I will post some pics of the finds later onBest,Scope

Im going to BCN in April so I would like to know a bit about which recordshops I should check out aswell as clubs, bars etc etc.

Holla,

For me top ten would be all about flamenco and classical.
Talking about soul, jazz, funk there's nothing groundbreaking but some good stuff here and there.

The best shop I've been to in Barcelona is Wah-wah, c/Riera Baixa. It's within a 5 min walk of la Rambla.
They run their own label and have done excellent reissues of some amazing Catalan psych and folk as well as more conventional soul and funk stuff and also stock a good selection of soul, jazz, soundtracks, prog and psych reissues and originals. Pan y Regaliz, Smash, Musica Dispersa, Pau Riba and Sisa are names to look out for and Jaun Carlos Calderon is a flamenco fusion artist whose albums always seem to have at least one pretty good funky track, at least up til the late 70s, which is all I've heard.
There's a couple of other stores on the same street that are also worth a look.

Yeah, Musica Dispersa is nice.
Thinking about hiphop, Solo los Solo are absolute winners.

I thought this was a lousy store. All the records were shrinkwrapped so that it was difficult to know whether a given album was a reissue or OG and, most importantly, its condition. The prices were ridiculous and when I asked the salesman whether he wanted more copies of a dollarbin Canadian record that the store was selling for 40 Euros, he scoffed and told me it was very rare and I would never find a copy. I was hoping to stock up on minty Barcelona Tractions and I was prepared to spend to get them, but the guys in the stores had never heard of it. Huh? I did find one or two decent pieces, but I realised very quickly that there were far better things to do in Barcelona than dig for records. The real heat in Barcelona is on the table.

Thank you guys for all the info,
of course I went out to the flea markets as well, but I did not one big score here besides finding bobby freeman 7" for 3.74 EUR and my partner in crime Defcon found one minty OG pressing of the Harlem Underground on Winley for 20 EUR :-)

But the spanish stuff is still missing out.

I went to Wah Wah on friday, and like Danno sez, the shrinkwrapping thing totaly sucks, also you cant listen to the records... I dug through all (and I really mean serious piles) of sevens there and put on hold to continue the crusade on Monday. We will see...

Other finds so far:

Wool - it's alright 7"
Another Adriano Celentano - Prisecolinensinainciusol 7"
Pino D'Angio - Ma Quela Idea 7"
Shadows - Little "B" :-)

all in nice EURO PicSleeves

Best,
Scoper

good luck.

damn...why couldn't i find this thread a week earlier. I just came back from spain!

Wah-Wah's is overrated, but full of rare re-issues. I felt like i got ripped off there. Edison's next door is a nice spot, and I got a lot of cheap records there.
